I decided to take out the trash today when I got home from work. This was a quick act of spontaneous cleaning. It wasn't really a noteworthy event until I lifted the lid to the can outside and threw in the ripe bag all in one motion. The squirrel, in that same fluid motion, either jumped and was hit by the bag, or was dislodged from the buster sword I'd just finally thrown out the day before. The rather startled critter hit my neighbors' house in a panic and took off -- for my open door.
I started laughing at the thing. Scaring these squirrels is a terrifyingly fun thing to do. I taunted it, saying, "Wrong way squirrel! There's nothing for you in there!" as I took a few steps towards the house. I didn't want to actually chase it inside, that would be messy. Luckily for me, the thing managed to scramble off the porch, land sideways, sommersault, and dissappear into the trees.
I don't know if you read the internet, squirrel, but I'll see you next time!
