In which there are hate crimes, m/m, mpreg, and GIANT books

- I don't rly have anything to say about the murder of Jo Cox, MP, beyond the bleedin' obvious (i.e. donating money or time or resellable items to Oxfam is an easy way to do good) except that I find it distasteful some politicians are using Ms Cox's death to claim that politicians are a persecuted minority, instead of using their platform to speak against the toxic right-wing rhetoric responsible for many many deaths whether by individual murderous hate-crimes or institutionalised violence and neglect manifesting as racism (e.g. in the criminal "justice" system), disablism (e.g. in the social security system), misogyny (e.g. the lack of effective action against domestic abuse), &c.

- IIRC several of my flist were seeking pre-1986 m/m gay romances with "happy endings" (i.e. minus the "Four Gay Weddings and Four Funerals" trope) so you might be interested in Martin Sherman's 1975 play Passing By, which isn't as famous as Mr Sherman's later Bent. It can be found in Plays 2 by Martin Sherman, and Gay Plays volume 1, available from all good libraries &c. In related news, I note that the Kings Head Theatre in London are about to revive Colin Spencer's notorious 1968 gay mpreg play Spitting Image. In 1969 the listings in New York Magazine called it a "science fiction fantasy about two gentleman homosexuals living together, one of whom gives birth to a baby. Well, why not...", although it's m/m mpreg set very much in the 1960s iirc. Mr Spencer is now better known as a food writer and a painter than a playwright and yet he was successful in that field too.

- On literary retrogression: the postman said to me, having knocked for my attention because my recent 600 page literary acquisition wouldn't post through my letterbox, "You've gone back to reading books that won't fit through the door." /retrogressive
