- Black British flower seller, circa 1790, who is a double amputee and was therefore probably a naval veteran. This man might have been delivering pre-ordered flowers but it's likely he was a street trader selling from his cart and participating in the tradition of "crying his wares", i.e. shouting or singing to tell potential customers what he had for sale. This portrait isn't silent. The subject probably earned his living by making people aware of his presence.
- Currently reading: "[...] here stood a tiny log cabin, with a line of washing behind it and an old lady dozing in a rocking chair on the porch.
The old lady was Crazy Nan Fey, the nurse of Maddy’s younger days. She opened one eye as the hawk came to land, and she watched with some interest as it became a naked young man, who proceeded to ransack Nan's washing line in search of something to wear. Nan supposed she ought to intervene - but the loss of an old dress, an apron, and a shawl seemed a small price to pay for the spectacle, and she decided against it."
- Context is for the weak!!1!! Quote of the [random time period]: "I think," he said, getting up, "that I'd rather like to specialise in little boys who are going into the navy. Doubtless being in the Army makes one prefer every other service, but I have a weakness in that direction."
- Headline of the [random time period]: "Gunman injured by armadillo ricochet", from BBC News online.
- I bet you're all glad I'm not doing naarmamo this year so you don't have to put up with a month of arty photos like this one....
