The prophet Elijah was a Time Lord

Did some tidying and organizing around the house. Still need to do more. I have peeps coming on Monday, and looking around the place with fresh eyes. (One real bummer of my place is that the only logical door to come in means walking through the kitchen. Ah, well.)

Had dinner with a friend and went to The Ugly Truth. I liked it... and I found it disconcerting. Somewhat for the reality it lays out, but also because I've been reading up on tropes again for work on a
stop_plagiarism case.

Also distracted by trying to remember if one of the actors in it was Rex from Days of Our Lives - and it was. I win as DooL Bingo. (Total side note: Lindsay Hartley is now playing Arianna Hernandez, the sister to Galen Gering's character Rafe Hernandez. Arianna's love interest is Brady Black, who is now being played by Eric Martsolf, who played Ethan Winthrop on Passions, which was Lindsay's character's love interest on Passions. New characters, same relationships. And given that I wasn't uber keen about Passions - other than Timmy - this actor change makes me strangely happy. Sorta like having both Ben Browder and Claudia Black on SG1 after Farscape.)

But back to The Ugly Truth. Tropes include:
Handsome Devil
Aw Look, They Really Do Love Each Other
The Bet
Beta Couple
Can't Stand 'Em, Can't Live Without Them
Dance of Romance
It's not you, it's me.
I Want My Beloved to Be Happy
Matchmaker Crush
The Cyrano
Opposities Attract
She Cleans Up Nicely
Jerk With a Heart of Gold
Pet the Dog
Race for Your Love

Just to name a few. Some of these are done well and with some originality. With some, I could almost feel the writer(s) saying, "I know, we'll give him a nephew to mentor - show that he's got layers."

As I was driving home, and stuck in more stop than go traffic, I kept singing snatches of "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" due to reading it referenced in a trope. Which then of course, led me to thinking about the use of innocuous songs with dreadful things, and what that trope might be called. Turns out that's called Soundtrack Dissonance.

Which then lead to reading about Lyrical Dissonance, which lead to a funny memory about watching The Muppet Show as a kid when they had the muppets basically act out a 'video' to Copacabana. Which, as discussed in lyrical dissonance, has a rather jaunty tune for rather tragic content.

Then that thread had a reference to Soandso being a Time Lord. Which then linked to the Wild Mass Guessing page devoted to real people and fictional characters who must be Time Lords. Laughing so hard at times I thought I'd start crying. :)
