Who: Maora and SURPRISE (you know who you are) What: the morning after. Ish. Someone gets a surprise in their room. Where: hi~mi~tsu When: after the chaos Rating: amusing Open: Mayhaps
Maora had an ear for gossip and random tidbits like this. Watanuki wasn't sure if he liked it, and he grabbed the pillow on the futon and hid his head under it to hide his face. Hopefully, it would also rid him of his grogginess.
"Sh-she's not my girlfriend; I --"
A girlfriend... he wished. Himawari had always been out of his reach even before they had come here, and now that she was in the clutches of some bastard who had freaky powers...
Dammit!
Watanuki clenched his fist as he tried to stagger up, swaying slightly when he was on his feet. He had to find Himawari and bring her back, illness or not. Even though he knew that she had made the deal with her own free will, he somehow knew that she wouldn't like it there. The teen had to convince her to come back
( ... )
"Sorry for this," Watanuki murmured apologetically, head lolling to the side. His face was pale, his brow sweaty, and he tried to stand up by his own before his knees gave way. Chuckling depreciatingly, he looked up at Maora. "I know I have to be in bed, but I need to post something to the network..."
The longer he didn't do anything, the greater the distance was between him and Himawari. Watanuki was worried for his friend; what if that guy forced her to do something she didn't want?
...no, he didn't want that to happen to her. Himawari's sad smile appeared in his mind -- it still wasn't right to see the tears in her eyes, because she didn't deserve them. She didn't need all this sadness, not any more.
A wave of dizziness overcame him, and he groaned. Any more, and he was going to be sick.
"Kimihiro-kun..." Yoshitaka's eyes wavered, watching his friend suffer. As he fell, the brunette caught him completely, supporting Watanuki with all of his strength. "Kimihiro-kun, you're ready to pass out and you're worried about the network?!"
Maora's face looked pained. How helpless he felt. There was nothing he could do...
"What could you possibly need to post right now?"
The treasurer reached into Maguri's breast pocket, where there was a clean handkerchief, and dabbed the side of Watanuki's face. He could feel the fever through the thin cloth. "You're burning up!"
Trying for a compromise, Maora argued, "You lay down and tell me what to type. I won't take no for an answer." Well, it was an almost compromise.
"I have to find her... have to find them." Sakura-chan, too, was... He hoped that, whoever kidnapped her, it wasn't the same guy who's been hurting girls or the guy who Himawari-chan went to. Between those two, he didn't know who was worse, but that wasn't...
Watanuki smiled tiredly when Maora mentioned his temperature. How ironic; he wanted to crawl under a blanket because he felt cold, somehow.
He wanted to protest, that Mao-chan was his guest and that he couldn't impose, but he knew that she wouldn't budge, and he wasn't in the condition to come up with a decent excuse or retort. So Watanuki nodded his consent, clutching his head as his brain pounded mercilessly against his skull.
"Who do you have to find, Kimihiro-kun?" The brunette was worried about his health, but the tone in his voice shouted that there was something more amiss that Maora was unaware of. What had happened while Maguri and he had been...
Yoshitaka continued to blot the sweat away from Watanuki's face, the fever still running, and the treasurer panicking. "Kimihiro-kun shouldn't force himself to smile when Maora's around. I only ever want to see a smile from the bottom of your heart." The tired smile made Maora's heart ache even more. Though not knowing him for long, Watanuki was a very very precious friend that he wanted to see no harm come to.
He lead the other boy to the futon, gently setting him down to face the direction of the computer. "You tell Maora what to do to help, and I'll do it."
He didn't think it odd that Maora was asking him who he was looking for. There were a lot of things he didn't think of or ask about now that he was sick; everything passed like a blur, and he could only focus on logging on to the network.
It was then he noticed the gentle pressure dabbing at his forehead, and Watanuki rested his forehead on Maora's shoulder. She must be so worried about him...
"What happened to them?" Maora paused, then realized, "Wait, little sweet, innocent Sakura-chan?"
At Watanuki resting his head on Yoshitaka's shoulder, the brunette wrapped his arms around his friend, hugging him tightly, but not enough to hurt him.
"Anytime, Kimihiro-kun. You are Maora's important friend. I'll do anything to protect you."
...
Protect. It was such a simple word, but when it came from Maora's mouth it felt as if...as if someone had put it there. As if there was a deeper meaning to using it.
The words trailed off into silence, and Watanuki couldn't continue. He squeezed his eyes shut, and shook his head later when he heard Maora's promise.
"Don't say that. You'll get harmed with all the bad things that follow me..."
While he tried to deny it, he knew the pains that Doumeki went through on a daily basis just to keep him safe. All those physical injuries and sacrifices... it made him feel guilty, deep down. It was especially obvious to him whenever he lay in a bed in Yuuko's shop as he was recovering from his own injuries.
No, Maora didn't need to get dragged into this business. She didn't need such danger to her life, didn't need to get into the complex web that was hitsuzen.
"Sakura-chan's missing?!" Maora felt her gut wrench. Man, Maguri and he had picked a great night to fall into each other's embrace. Not that Maora regretted it but...missing?! It just wasn't right.
"What happened to Himawari-chan?"
Maora's hand ran through Watanuki's hair in a very maternal manner, as if to reassure him. Seeing him like this truly broke the brunette's heart.
"Kimihiro-kun doesn't need to worry about anyone but himself right now." Her friend had told her about the spirits that chased him, but...they had never harmed Maora, nor could the treasurer see them. So...no harm no foul. "I can take care of myself." He added, to try and ease Watanuki's worry.
"It happened at the masquerade... don't know what's happened after..."
There was a vague shout, he remembered, followed by a lot of movement. He still couldn't remember what happened between that and getting back from the teahouse, but he could remember Yuuko's anger. Another thing that he regretted not knowing was where Himawari had gone.
"And Himawari-chan, she's made a deal with this guy..."
The feeling of fingers carding through his hair - it was nice and comforting. After his parents had died, he rarely had felt anything similar. There was that episode with the ghost woman, shortly after he had lost his eye...
Some of the tension left Watanuki as a strange calm settled over him.
At Maora's promise to take care of herself, Watanuki shook his head slightly.
"I know you can. But you can't guarantee that nothing will happen to you."
((ooc: ...um. We never talked about where Himawari is after the ball, ne? So is it okay to assume that she's not in the teahouse? In any case, Watanuki doesn't know where she is right now, so
( ... )
((ooc: ...that we did not. But yesh, safe to assume she's not there.))
"Kami-sama..." Maora's voice went soft, and she looked to the side, upset that she had been ignorant of something so important. So much for being the best busybody.
At the comment about the deal, Yoshitaka's face hardened and he turned back to Watanuki, "What...kind of deal?" Though he had never specified who exactly gave them to him, Maguri had mentioned some sort of deal, "Was it...for powers?"
Maora kept Watanuki in the close hug, fearing if he released his friend now, he would be unable to support himself. Not to mention he would flop backwards on the futon, and that would probably hurt.
"If something happens to me...we'll take that as it comes. But Maora can't leave a friend without help. Haine-chan helped me to become stronger for others...so that I won't disappoint any of the friends I love..."
He ran his hand down Watanuki's hair once more, then resumed dabbing the side of his face to try and keep him cool. And why was it suddenly feeling so hot...?
"Someone granted her wish..." He tried to slightly increase the pressure on Maora's arm to stress the importance of this, but all he managed to do was a faint squeeze. The muscles of his hand couldn't hold their tension for too long.
"I don't know what she wished for or what the price was, but after that..." Watanuki tried to swallow, but his throat was too dry. "She was caught in something..."
Memories of his confrontation with the Spider Lady appeared in his mind, and he felt an overwhelming sense of loss. It was like the moment he found Zashiki-warashi in the Spider's lair, entangled with fine threads and so close to an impure source. Who was that person?
What bothered him the most was that Himawari had mentioned his name when she sealed the deal. He hadn't heard the rest of what she said, but he hoped that she hadn't done anything permanent. It would have broken him if she had done something to cause her harm because of him.
(Deals like this were binding and long lasting, he knew, but that didn't mean that he couldn't hope.
( ... )
"Her...wish..." Maora repeated the words, somehow between Watanuki's actions and his own unconscious understanding realized the importance of those words.
What the price was. It struck a chord.
Wait...
Hadn't Maguri said, "Someone decided to help me get rid of a few obsticles. At a small price."
Maora thought back to the conversation before they had gone to his apartment.
"I'll do anything to become stronger for you."Why was...why was she feeling like there was some connection? What was this foreboding sinking in her stomach
( ... )
Something changed with Maora's body language, made more noticeable with their current proximity. Watanuki tilted his head to the side in an effort to see her properly.
"Is something wrong..?"
That was when he saw something very visible on Maora's pale neck, above the green camoflauge collar. The contrast between colors made it all the more obvious.
Watanuki squinted. Eyeglasses did you no good when you were seeing something too close, but even at this range he could tell that it wasn't an ordinary thing to have on one's skin. He couldn't think of what it could be though; his head hurt too much.
"...what happened to Mao-chan?"
((ooc: Apologies for not adding the second part of the conversation; I don't know how to weave it in now. ^^;))
"No...it's probably nothing..." Maora's voice went softer, and she smiled at Watanuki, "it just...sounded like something someone said to me." Reaching up her free hand, she rubbed the side of her head. This action caused her sleeve to slide down, revealing a considerable bruise that went unnoticed.
When Watanuki asked what happened, Maora blinked, then touched his neck where the bespectacled boy was staring. What could have...
...oh.
OH.
Maora's face turned bright red. Had the conversation not been so serious, he would have certainly teased the taller boy with a seductive mimicking move. "Maora and Maguri...ah...made up...last night..."
It was the only delicate way he could put the situation.
"Sh-she's not my girlfriend; I --"
