Had Kanda been slightly less of a pessimistic realist, he would have thought that for one brief moment, he was truly dead this time. The thought had danced across his mind when he first somehow appeared in a cemetary (the whole idea was grimly amusing for the first five seconds), and then he had thought that whoever said death was warm and fuzzy was a lying sack. It was nothing short of apocalyptically cold and dark. Luckily, the itch of his wounds seeping into his body brought him back to reality, and his tattoo was still rudely intruding in black, jagged lines over the pale skin of his shoulder and ribs ( ... )

Badou paused in his mission to annihilate vegetations that were obscuring his attempt towards escape when he heard the steady crunch crunch crunch of crushed leaves heading his way. He didn't realise it at first, too absorbed in trying to find his way out. In cursing whatever deity that decided to play this colossal joke on him. But when he did, the sound seemed to echo loudly against the deafening silence around him, amplified by the unsettling feeling of paranoia and fear at the pit of his stomach ( ... )

The similarities were striking--stupidly so, right down to the eyepatch--but on a doubletake Kanda quickly realized that this wasn't Rabi. Which meant it wasn't another exorcist.

Which meant it was akuma-fodder. An enemy.

Kanda bristled like some kind of hellish cat and whipped his blade at an upward arc, leveling it with pinpoint precision at Badou's good eye before the other man could flail anymore in his general direction. His dark eyes were alight with disdain, sharp and venomous. Just because Mugen was a little on the battered side didn't mean he couldn't--or wouldn't--still use it to kill. Gladly, even.

The swordsman glowered none-too-kindly over the length of the blade keeping the spastic redhead a respectable distance from him. He didn't appreciate that kind of idiot nonsense being directed at him.

"What do you want?" he snarled, all spit and barbwire.

Somehow, near-death experiences always put Kanda in a pissier mood than usual.

It was something of a miracle that Badou managed to not trip and stumble forward in his shock because hello. Shiny, pointy sword uncomfortably near to his eye. Would be frickin' embarrassing to impale himself to death - unglorious, really - after all the shit he'd gone through ( ... )
