Wandering through the fairly empty streets, Hinata watched as people bustled this way and that, disappearing into houses as the dark settled in. Feeling terribly lost, she searched each face that passed for any familiarity, but again and again found none. Above, she saw no sky, no moon, no sun; rather there were the stairs that descended upwards and beyond.
Over the top of all the other buildings, she saw a gray structure towering over all the others. With windows seemingly blacked out and horrible aura around it, it filled the pit of stomach with a fear she couldn't quite place. Shivering slightly, she began walking faster. There was something not quite right about this "City".
Neji walked up quickly behind her. He thought of setting a hand on her shoulder, then thought better of it. She was probably afraid. Then again, in this place, one couldn't really blame her....
He stopped when he felt he was close enough, and spoke, slightly louder than he normally would, so she could hear.
"Hinata-sama."
He hoped it was really her, and not some illusion that this City was creating. He wouldn't put it past the place to be that horrible.
Jumping at the sound of a voice right behind her, Hinata was immensely relieved when she whirled around and found only her Neji-nii-san behind her. All protocol forgotten, she immediately embraced him without any lingering thoughts that this was not how a Hyuuga heiress was ever supposed to act.
Only the soft material of his clothes, and his form- solid and real- under her hands reassured her that this was not another one of the hallucinations she'd encountered on the stairwell.
Fighting to regain her composure, she pulled away, too grateful for her cousin's presence to bother blushing.
"It's good to see you, Neji-nii-san," she said softly, offering a tentative smile.
He allowed a ghost of a smile to cross his face. He was happy to see her, even if he wouldn't admit it. A familiar face was what he needed. Well, really, it was just her.
"It's good to see you too, Hinata-sama. When did you arrive? Are you alright?" She seemed to be fine, only a bit shaken. Which, of course, he couldn't blame her for.
He reached forward, taking her wrist carefully and brushing his fingers over her skin. "I've been staying in there," he nodded towards the tenement building, "You're welcome to stay with me, if you'd like." He spoke quietly, not wanting to let his voice decieve how he really felt about the damn place. He didn't need to make her nervous.
