James cursed his luck for managing to end up in the cemetary, though judging from the way the fates had been treating him lately, he supposed he shouldn't have been surprised. As if death hadn't been on his mind as it was; as if every tombstone wasn't a blaring reminder of what had happened to him only a little while beforehand.
His old habit of running his hands through his hair had come back to him in full force. Even now James felt himself tugging on his hair once again, but it was no longer to achieve the windswept look that made girls go giddy; no, it was a nervous gesture made to reassure himself that he was corporeal, he was real, and that he hadn't been turned into some sort of ghost without his knowing.
Sitting down on a tombstone, James suddenly found himself having to blink away tears. He hated it, this whole not knowing thing. He hated that he had died before he saw what had happened to Lily, what happened to Harry. He hated being caught in limbo like this.
James screamed, kicking his legs against the tombstone that he had positioned himself on. The satisfaction that it should have given him was annoyingly absent. Wincing, now, as he felt the pain was lancing through his legs, James stood up and prepared to leave the cemetary altogether.
