Being a shaman generally entailed wierd things.  Things like...the dead coming back in varying states of intelligence, for the sheer purpose of tying up loose ends, really strong emotions, those sorts of things (vengeange, peace...that really delicious looking cooking on the plate that nobody else has touched yet), and causing a generally large amount of hassle for no real reason whatsoever.

After a few years of that sort of stuff happening on and off (and not to mention the heaploads of fire-induced mental trauma suffered on the side), Lyserg was fairly sure there would be no more room for surprises.  Especially of the unpleasant variety.

So it came as a double shock to him when he not only discovered that, ohmy!, the towel closet in the X-Laws base actually lead to a gigantic otherworldly dimension thing, but that said door used to enter said dimension thing disappeared as soon as he had made the grand mistake of letting it fall shut behind him.  Although that may have just been chocked up to his apparent lack of ability to make good decisions.  After having tried to find the wall in an old mystery movie sort of way (feeling round for some secret switch), the dowser decided to do the next best thing; decided to travel downward.  Because we all know it's a brilliant idea to go down towards the epicentre of strange, mysterious places and there's definitely never anything evil lurking round those areas.  Definitely a brilliant idea.

So off he went on his merry stairway traversing adventure!  All the while wondering why he hadn't decided to go up instead, because wasn't up associated with heaven, justice and all things holy and good?

Seeing as he was rather clumsy at times and the stairs were fairly steep (and surrounded by useless!doors), it came as yet another surpirse when Lyserg made it to the bottom entirely unscathed.  And found himself near face-to-face with a rather large building that, if he really had to guess at it, was probably a church.  "Er..."  Looking slightly awkward for a moment, he was tempted to reach out and touch the side of the building, but quickly decided against it lest he be arrested for trespassing or something.

Emerald eyes shifted, looking for anyone nearby instead who could tell him what the church was, or where he was for that matter.  Yeah, that'd be a good start.  Then maybe he'd be able to figure out if there was some elevator around.  The stairs seemed farther away than ever.  Much to his chagrin when he turned round though, he was met with nothing but a city seemingly-abandoned; barely a shadow passing through and nothing that remotely resembled a person in the directon he was looking.

Decided, then.  He really did hate surprises.
