Jan wasn’t quite sure what had happened. He had been dying, he had been burning alive, the flames licking at his skin, his flesh blackening, crisping. He was consumed by the fire, until all he could see was the swirling, orange flickers, and all he could hear was the roar of flames…

Suddenly, it was gone. Jan shook himself, uncomprehending. What the fuck? Slowly, he looked himself over. No burns, no injures (shit, he even had his arm back!). A manic grin almost split his face.

“Take that you fucking cunt-bitch-whore!” He yelled hoarsely, voice echoing, “I’m fucking alive!”

Breathing hard, he turned, taking in his surroundings. A huge staircase spiraled up behind him, and a before him lay what seemed an abandoned street. Somewhere, further off, a huge spire of a church rose above the decrepit buildings.

Jan paused, head cocked. There was…something calling him towards that spire. A compulsion almost.

Slowly, he put one foot in front of the other, making his way to the Church.

Dante had barely walked a few yards when a scream caught his attention. "Take that you fucking cunt-bitch-whore! I’m fucking alive!" Well, that was unexpected.

However, it did confirm that there were other residents in this unknown city, and that was a good sign. Not that Dante was eager to make friends, but it wouldn't hurt to try and mooch some info off some of the residents, maybe learn something useful about the place.

There were sounds of someone approaching, so Dante parked himself, leaning back onto the church's outer gate and folding his arms. If this guy had info, great. If not, Dante could handle that, too.

Jan was almost in a trance as he walked towards the Church. It was as if someone else was controlling his feet, and eventually he was standing before the imposing doors of the Church. But he wasn’t alone.

“Who the fuck are you?” Jan asked, defensively crossing his arms. He slowly looked Dante up and down, judging him.

Dante hadn't expected to be greeted quite like that. His past experiences with this sort of thing had him ready for some mysterious-yet-dangerous individual to show up, try to kill him, and extend the invitation to some remote place where he could be almost killed several other ways, all of which involving demons. The fact that this guy had no idea who he was was an interesting change, as was the fact that he lacked the snooty dignity of many upper-level demons (and humans who knew too much).

The smirk was automatic. "Dante. And who the fuck are you?"
