Fuji had to stop short and blink. That was not something he did overly often, and not without reason. This time he thought he had a pretty good reason for doing so.
He had been coming home from practice, the last practice for the season, and it had all been a rather tearful moment, mainly because a lot of them wouldn't be seeing each other every day like they had been used to, and rumor had it Echizen would be returning to the States after the winter holidays. Even Fuji, never being one close to tears, had felt rather choked up, especially after seeing Oishi and Eiji crying openly. All in all, a rather exhausting experience, and as he came home, he couldn't wait to just unwind in the bath for an hour or two. So he had planned on dropping his things in his room, grab a towel and jump into the warm, welcoming water.
But, as he had opened the door to the bathroom, naked save for the towel wrapped around his waist, he had been in for a surprise. And said surprise had him blinking in confusion.
He wasn't in the bathroom.
He wasn't in his house at all. What stretched out before the fourteen - soon to be fifteen - year old was anything but the familiar walls of the bathroom. Instead he stood on a staircase that seemed to be winding down into infinity.
Fuji blinked. He turned around, aiming to go back, and blinked again. The door was gone. What stretched out before him was the staircase, winding up towards infinity.
He had to admit, it was making him nervous. Things like these didn't really happen in real life, now did they? Fuji bit down on his lower lip while he tried to think through the situation calmly, rationally. True, this couldn't happen. Which would lead to the logical assumption that he had either slipped on something and hit his head, or there had been something really odd in the drinks Inui had offered them. Either way, this had to be a dream.
Or at least, he could view it as such.
And if it was a dream, then it called for an investigation. Smiling to himself, the teenager slowly started to descend the stairs.
Only to come to a stop as he reached a large gate. After debating with himself for a while, he decided to open it... And found himself looking out over a dark and rather unpleasant looking city. And what was more... He felt that he wasn't alone.
