Lana stayed awake long enough to make sure Ema was sleeping peacefully. The girl had been through so much in such a short time, and Lana felt terrible that she didn't arrive sooner. It was still odd how she had lost a year of her younger sister's life, but now that didn't matter.
What mattered most important was heading home, although that had a downside to it as well. Once arriving home, she would have to be sent back to prison. It was a double edged sword: either way was a negative outcome.
But if they did get home, at least Ema would be safe.
Since her thoughts were on her sibling anyway, Lana went to check in on Ema once more, but found the bed empty. Momentary panic gripped at her as she exited the apartment without a moment's hesitation. How did Ema vanish so quickly? Lana was there the whole time! Regardless, she stepped outside to try to look for her sister.
The panic escalated further once she realized how dark it was, clutching her folded arms to her. She had to find Ema quickly, and then return back inside.
