House Pics

Feb 13, 2009 15:26

As of this writing we are half-way through with the whole contract process. All that's left is the seller's signature, and then the next few weeks will be very busy dealing with banks and loan offices and sending letters etc etc etc -- buying a house is fucking arduous. But the end result is absolutely worth it. Getting the whole sale thing together is certainly not for the inherently lazy, especially when dealing with this particular seller (of whom I have much to vent about in a moderated post), but wait until you see these pictures:

(Please note that these pics are ganked directly from MLSLI.com. We have a few thousand pictures of much higher resolution that we took, but since I currently don't have access to those pics right now you'll have to deal with these eye-strainers to give you an idea of what we're looking at. Plus you have my terrific narrative prowess to guide you through so quit yer bellyachin')

There she is. It's a split ranch (or splanch, which I think sounds stupid) right in the heart of Commack. It's got a one car garage that I'll most likely never actually use to store my car, but the driveway is wide enough to hold 2 cars side by side, and I believe I can get 3 cars total there, just to give you an idea of how big it is. I think we're probably gonna trim those bushes in the front a bit, especially considering it blocks most of the front window.

The living room. To give you a bead on where you are here, to the left of this pic off camera is the front door. We're going to try to purchase that couch from her as well, especially since she said she's looking to offload most of the furniture. We're not going to put a TV in here most likely, but that all depends on what it will look like when we move her shit out and get ours in there. Otherwise there's another room fit for the TV a few pics later.

On the other side of the living room is the dining room. Please excuse the 1990's-old-Italian-woman's-choice furniture. That's most likely gonna get tossed. Also note: current sliding-door exit to the back yard count: 1

The kitchen! This kinda puts the final piece of the first-floor puzzle together, because as you can see in the background, there's the dining room just past the kitchen divider. So basically we made a full clockwise circle around the first part of the house. Don't get used to the 1950's diner table, because that shit takes up a lot of real estate in the kitchen, so expect that to get tossed too. Current sliding-door exit to the back yard count: 2

Another shot of the kitchen. You can't really see here, but the appliances are about 3,000 years old. Yes, that microwave predates Jesus Christ. Seriously you guys it does. Of course electricity hasn't been discovered back then, so this microwave is actually powered by unicorn farts and leprechaun snot, which is directly imported via long island power associates. Also: please note the recurring 1990's-old-Italian-woman's-choice cabinetry. We might do something about that further down the timeline, but for now we'll have to deal with it.

Moving right along! Directly after the front door when you walk in, immediately to your right are 2 sets of stairs, up and down. First we'll go downstairs and turn to our right to see...

the family room! This is most likely where we'll keep the TV. It looks like it's just the right size to put a 46" television. This is where I'll keep my xbox and other miscellaneous gaming appliances until I get another TV for the basement, which unfortunately isn't covered in this update. Soon though. But this is only half of the family room. If you spin around 180 degrees, you see...

the remainder of the family room! The first door on your right is the door to the garage. That further door in the back leads to a full bathroom with shower. That there on your left also happens to be a metric assload of closet space, so this is probably where we'll keep the bodies vacuum cleaner. Current sliding-door exit to the back yard: 3

Not pictured in either of the above 2 pictures: access to the partially-finished basement. Sadly I don't have pics of the basement yet. I do at home, so hopefully I won't be too lazy and post those later. For now though, let's go back up the stairs and visit the second floor.

There are 4 rooms up here, and this is one of them: the master bedroom. We'll get rid of the shitty dressers and nightstands because it reminds me of my childhood friend Brian's old furniture which is just awful, but this is basically it. Only has one closet, but it's huge. I am officially entitled to 1/16th of the closet because I'm a guy that has about 3 articles of clothing that I cleverly rotate well enough that nobody knows I'm wearing clothing that's weeks old without washing. Not pictured here: access to the full bathroom. Don't have a pic of the second floor full bathroom yet, but trust me, it's a full bathroom. I promise you. I wouldn't lie I swear guys seriously

Here's another bedroom upstairs. That window faces the front of the house and there's access to the attic in the closet that's not pictured. This room is most likely going to be the guest bedroom in case anyone needs to crash or whatever. There's another bedroom here too (again, no pics sorry), and Marisa will be converting that into her own office. It's a little bigger than this room.

So there's a few rooms I don't have pictures of yet: Partially-finished basement with capabilities to add a wet bar, laundry room, third bedroom, ground floor full bathroom, second floor full bathroom, garage, and the foyer. You could kinda see the foyer in the living room, but it's still missing a chunk of the room from that pic. But anyway, onto the backyard!

Firstly, the porch out back. Look at the size of this fucker. Note two of the sliding-glass doors on the right. The third door is at the base of the stairs which leads into the family room. Plenty of light. Also take note of the BBQ there in the distance. You can't really see it, but there's an adapter there to pull gas directly from the house. No need for propane tanks anymore! Just plug that shit in and you're golden. This is the coolest thing EVER.

Here's a pulled-back shot of the backyard. The entire property is on a quarter of an acre of land. Plenty of space for...say...a barbecue of the OMGWTF variety?

Side view of the backyard. Again, plenty of space. Expect sometime in the future (maybe a year or two from now) to have a hot tub. Summer will be FUCKING AWESOME.

So there you go. More pics to come as time progresses. It looks like there's a very good chance that we'll end up owning this house since we're in a legally binding contract right now. Sorry for the wait, didn't want to jinx it. It being Friday the 13th and all.
