I live in a one bedroom apt by myself in an apt community for disney performers. .. (its basically a glorified hotel suite - kitchenette, bathroom, living area and bed)
We're 14 hours AHEAD of the east coast so I'm writing this at 2:45 pm on saturday and its 12:45 AM on saturday where ya'll are...
our show opens monday.... cant wait...
I have made it into the city several times.... mostly to hit up our fav club in Shinjuku (the club district) it's a TINY bar called arty farty's that is frequented by many gaijin (foreigners) I've also hit up Akihabara (electronics city) it's like several miles of computers and electronics stores... its AWESOME.... diva electronics wicked cheap... and they have several duty free shops so i wont have to pay taxes when i come back....(when i get paid again i'll prolly buy ANOTHER laptop) lets pray that one will work....
theres like NO american TV... sometimes the movie channel will show american stuff and occassional MTV Japan will have american stuff.. but pretty much IO'm livin off my DVD's (only been here 2 weeks and they're already getting WICKED old)
I get paid in both yen and dollars..... I have two bank accounts, a Citibank where my salary is paid in american dollars (though I can convert it into yen if i want) I also have an account with a japanese bank where my daily living allowance ($50 a day) is depositted......
as for the people...... despite popular belief, japanese people DO NOT speak english... or at least most dont.... they all take 6 years of english in grade school, but its taught by other japanese who dont speak english well themselves.... as a result they can all read and write english but cant speak it..... it gets a little frustrating but we get by.... on set we have interpreters (none of the directors, stage managers, or cast speak english) but its ok... the japanese cast members teach us japanese... and we teach them english... out in the city we do alot of pointing and gesturing to communicate....... children stare alot (especially at the african americans in the cast).... it kinda sucks though cuz I'm trying to learn japanese and use it in daily life.... but when sales people or others see me coming they automatically assume i wont speka the language so they go right into "gesture" mode.... it oks..... my japanese is coming along.....
so my contract WILL be extended so not sure when I'll be back (could be here for over a year.....) not sure if I could last much longer than that... dont get me wrong i love it here.. but I do miss the US.....and SIMPSONS!!!....and English!..... hahah anywho thats an update on me....
