Everything you ever wanted to know about this journal, but were too afraid to ask.

Yeah, it's getting to be about that time again. Those of you who've been around for awhile, feel free to ignore this. Newbies and potential newbies, pay attention.

1. Who is Selah?
That would be me, mother jaguar and writer of many things. But you won't see much of the real me at this journal. For a great many reasons, I've withdrawn all personal remarks from this journal. I have personal journals elsewhere to keep my friends abreast of my life. Yes, this is the point of contact I give out to people, but when it comes to LJ, I do most of my socializing in comms and other people's journals.

Want to know the real me? Start with the comms. That's where you're most likely to catch me actually interacting with people these days.

2. What IS Monochromatic?
And the smart-ass answer is ... this journal. ~_^ Monochromatic is my literary and fandom journal - it's a public face to the world in the form of how I publish fanfic and dabble in fandom communities here at LJ. In other words, 99.95% of the entries here are either going to be fic or about fic (status updates, notes to betas, usw). This is a working journal - rough drafts go into beta-locked entries while finished product gets filed with the appropriate community. To follow my writing, it is not necessary for me to friend you - all status reports are public and all finished fics are posted to the appropriate community, with only the occassional sighting back here.

3. Who are your betas? What if I want to be one, too?
My betas are my business! If you want to beta for me, go ahead and ask, but it's worth noting that you're going to have to prove you can beta for me. I have high standards - I researched the Heart Sutra extensively just to write a piece of smut - and what I need from my betas tends more towards characterization, keeping canon, and staying grounded in reality, rather than simple spelling/grammar checks.

4. Why haven't you friended me?!
Well, why should I? My fandoms of choice are filled with fangirls a decade (or more) younger than me - if fandom is all we have in common, why should I care? This journal's friends list is a reading list - people I know, people I find interesting, communities that tweak my curiousity, communities for my fandoms-of-choice, and of course, the ever-necessary news feeds. Being friended or not being friended by a literary journal is hardly a measure of your character, honest.

So what does this mean for you? Well, it means anyone and their pet monkey is welcome to friend, bookmark, link to, or otherwise pimp this journal. I can't stop you. Hell, if you really wanted, you could print off the entries and use them to wipe your butt and I wouldn't be able to stop you. I wouldn't recommend it, but, you know....

5. When are you updating fic XX?
Six months later than I was planning to before you asked, thanks.

Seriously, don't ask me this question. Just don't. Even on a good day, it'll piss me off, and if I'm having a bad day? Unless you're one of my wives, you will have just killed any desire to even look at the fic in question.

Yes, it's true, J-rock has eaten my brain. It's SHINY Syndrome - a new fandom comes along with all its sparkly and decimates all existing fandoms until the shiney effect starts to wear off or another new fandom comes down the pipe. J-rock being a compounding fandom situation, well ... there's always something new and shiny to inspire the plotbunnys into multiplying. Once this swirling miasma of bunny doom is harnessed and back under control, other fandoms will be able to push forward their projects again. However, me being me, anything set aside more than two years ago is unlikely to be finished anymore without being completely revised. And when it comes to certain fandoms, I haven't got the will or desire to do that.

6. I have a question that isn't on here.
Really? Hnh.

Okay, so I figure I've covered the bases, but if there's something I've left off or something more obscure you want to know, this is the place to ask. I'll at least read your question, but I reserve the right not to respond if I find it too stupid. :p
