Since Sarah Asked

Well...I actually finished my sociology paper and now I have some time to explain what was being protested, and Sarah wanted to know so I thought that was cool. Anyway, I dont think you can actually say that I was doing the protesting, I was actually there more or less for support of the cause.

Ok so last week there is an article written in the MU Student News ( one of the 6 newspapers we get here, at least) by a girl named Jenny Marinko, a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority (and for Sarah, that is the same sorority that my other friend Sarah is in) anyway the article speaks of some phallenic baners being torn down about a week beforehand and how there had been accusations of the NPHC sororities being responsible for the act, if you don't already know, the NPHC is the set of black fraternities and sororities on campuses Nationwide, often participating in events hosted by the IFC and Phallenic council, at least here on my campus. Anyway thats not the whole problem of the article, this is: The girl goes on and on talking in the form of WE and They basically stating that the black sororities should stay out of their business and stay in their own business, when everyone on campus already knew that it wasn't anyone from our school that even ripped down the banners, she went ahead with her article. Pissing off basically the entire campus, Greek and non Greek, Black, white yellow brown purple and green alike. I think the line that got everything was :"They should stay out of our world and stay in their own little world." What she actually meant to say or what she was actually hoping to happen is unknown to all because she refuses to speak to the press or anyone about anything....anyway that wasnt the only reason for the Sit-In, which it really was because they sat on the steps of Jesse Hall, our main building on campus. There have been a lot of issues dealing with minorities on our campus and this was the straw that broke the camels back.

There were about 150 actual protestors, and thousands of onlookers and supporters of the cause alike.

Of course my old roommate was there and got me in on the action, I honestly knew nothing about this until I walked by that morning and I was quite upset because I don't think this one girl should taking all the slack for the problem, what about the other 6 people that article had to go through before it went to the press, why aren't they getting any shit?

ANyway...I hope that wasn't too confusing...I am not sure if you can find the actual article online but if you can or if you want the actual article, I can send it to you via email or on here...God Bless
