Am SUPER pissed at the Child Dev people at the moment. I found out on Tuesday that my Advaced Child Development class is pretty much a repeat of everything I've already done in my eled Child Development class. We learn about theorists and observe children in the daycare, making a case study about where they are in different parts of development (physical, cognitive, socioemotional, etc). Can anyone in either Cohort 2 or 3 scream "huh, isn't that what we did in the preschools/daycares in Derry and Latrobe?"? Oh, and assessments. Authentic, formal, informal, all of that, too. Familiar, anyone?
After finding this out on Tuesday, my first thought was that maybe I could show someone the case study I did sophomore year, take a test on theorists, and get an exemption from (and credit for) the class, leaving my schedule open for something else so that I don't have to take 21 credits next semester. The professor that teaches the particular class is new and suggested that I talk to someone more experienced in the department, so I went to ask my advisor if there was anything that I could do about it
me: "I'm in advanced child dev. The things outlined on the syllabus for it seem really similar to things that I've done in my early childhood ed classes. I was wondering if there might be a way that I could get an exemption from it"
advisor: "No."
me: "But I've already learned about theorists and done a case study...."
advisor: "Oh, you shouldn't have said that; now we'll expect you to do the assignments twice as well! They should be easy for you! Would the people over in education let you use something from this major if you transfered over to there?"
me (thinking of Hannibal): "Well, probably not..."
advisor: "Well, then, that's that, isn't it?" and pretty much kicked me out of her office
If I've already mastered the material, WHY do I have to sit through the SAME thing AGAIN????? AAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
