Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic" has been pegged by many as not being ironic at all as all the examples she gives are merely situational coincidences. This of course led to people saying that the song may be ironic because although she says it is ironic it is in fact not ironic which is verbal irony or sarcasm.
I pose that the song is even more ironic than that. Venturing to create an ironic song Alanis Morissette managed to do the opposite which is possibly the truest form of irony, situational irony. Further if we look at celebrities as characters in a stage play put on solely for our amusement it also fits the bill of dramatic irony as we, the "audience", understand what irony is while Alanis Morissette does not leading to amusing situations because of her lack of understanding of what she is saying.
So really "Ironic" is in fact the most ironic song possible. It is stated that it is ironic when in fact it is not, the writer set out to make an ironic song and did not, and the singer's lack of understanding of the meaning of her own words led to a funny situation.
The ironic part of this post is that I set out to prove the song was not ironic and did the exact opposite.
