Summary: In which Iroh buys something slightly strange... And more than slightly dead.

Author's Note: Written for theavatar100 "Monty Python" challenge. Based on the "Dead Parrot" sketch, if you couldn't tell already.
Zuko considered his uncle’s latest inane purchase with the air of someone inspecting something particularly disgusting that they had found lodged underneath their boot. "Uncle?"
"Yes?"
"What is that?"
Iroh beamed. "That, nephew, is a parrot. Not a cat-parrot or a parrot-ferret, but a plain parrot- very rare, indeed. The woman had that charming pet store over there sold it to me for quite a bargain. Remarkable bird, isn’t it? Lovely plumage. Maybe it will bring a spark of life back to the ship."
Spark of life was probably not the most accurate description of what the parrot would bring to the ship, considering, from Zuko’s perspective, it looked like it didn’t have anything resembling a spark of life. In fact, it looked...
"Uncle... I think it’s dead."
Iroh looked appalled by the very idea. "Nonsense, Zuko." He looked at the mostly inert parrot inside the cage. "He’s, er, resting." He paused uncomfortably, his eyes shifting nervously to the bird lying flat on its back at the bottom of the cage. "Um...Lovely plumage, don’t you think?"
Zuko resisted the urge to smack his forehead. "I don’t think the plumage figures into this, Uncle." He reached his finger into the cage and poked the bird furtively, but it failed to respond. He muttered something under his breath, and Iroh cocked his head to the side, straining to catch it.
"What did you say?"
"I said..." Zuko started before trailing off again, somewhat embarrassed that his uncle had caught him muttering something almost as inane as the aforementioned dead parrot. "I said... It’s an ex-parrot."
