Author's Note: This... Image, I guess, would not leave me alone after last night's episode, I swear.

It definitely wasn’t vanilla.

About three seconds after her first taste, while the pie was in the oven, she realized exactly what was in that little bottle, and she was torn between two emotions- the first being slight irritation that Lily and Vivian were being force-fed mood stabilizers by their own not-as-dead-as-they-thought niece (even though it really was helping them) and the second, which held more prevalence and quickly shoved the first out of her head completely, was that this was one of his bottles.

Without quite thinking, she found herself reaching for the phone, shaking fingers dialing a number he had left on a napkin for her with a simple goodbye in fluid handwriting. She had never actually gotten up the courage to dial the numbers before now, too stubborn and too afraid to admit that she had been wrong all that time.

Several rings later, she got a voice mail message and her heart skipped a beat as she heard his soft, melodic voice urging her to leave a message and he’d get back to her as soon as possible.

"‘Fredo, I’m... Sorry. About not really paying you any attention while you were here, and... Not really seeing what you meant to me. If I could take back everything I said... Or, well, everything I didn’t say, then I would... And if I could go back to before you left, I’d tell you not to go, because maybe if I cared a little more, you’d still be here and I wouldn’t be sitting here wishing every second that you weren’t gone. That’s... That’s pretty much it."

The words were pretty. Not as pretty as some of things that he could say, but they would suffice... Or rather they would have sufficed had she not lost her courage and hung up the phone before the beep, the constant droning of the dial tone the only witness to her heartfelt words.
