ITP - Rainy Forest

The rain came down steadily. He leaned against the tree, letting the water soak into his clothes in distaste. Not like any dream he has been in,yet it was still a dream in nature. He brushed some of the stray droplets off his face, the trunk of the tree cutting into his back, too real, too rough for his liking. Staying in one place bothered him and ( Read more... )

The slow blurring and melting of the darkness did startle Kakyou slightly as his eyebrow carefully arched the tiniest fraction. The shoji he'd been resting upon was replaced with a wisteria tree while the slight ripples that stirred with his few movements were replaced with a light cascade of blossoms. He took a moment to rest his head back gently, wistfully thinking of how the sun felt and the ground had a curious odor to it before looking around slowly for the dreamer who dream this belonged to.

He stirred quietly, his eyes catching the presence of a pale, thin man draped heavily under a large heavy kimono that looked several sizes too big for him. What had really caught his attention was the long, blond hair that seem to fall over the man's eyes and face, like a shadowy veil. Then the paranoia set in and he stood up to glare at the man from a distance. Kamui had never seen him before and that made him all the more suspicious. His teeth set on edge and his hands twitch with the faint burns of his power.

To the barest degrees, the confusion lifted. He'd seen the dreams of this Kamui a few times before yet was surprised that he'd been pulled there, he'd always entered of his own violation, and even what the boy was dreaming about. Something was different, something was outside of his dreams of the future, and the tension in the boy had Kakyou curling his fingers in the fabric of his sleeves.

"Kamui. . . Did you call me?" he softly asked.

He twitched at the sound of his name, his brow creasing in confusion. Call him? Who was he and why would Kamui call him? The sound of his name was reassuring, but his fingers still felt tense and raw, waiting for an excuse for the other man to slip up.

Kamui finally simply crossed his arms together in a defensive position and replied, "I have no idea who you are or why I would call you."

With the world changing around him and the tragic events that seemed unrelenting in their course, Kakyou could understand his apparent anger and need to defend himself. Still, Kamui would know he was not a threat, and more importantly who he was. "Because I have entered your dreams before. You don't remember?" replied Kakyou, not stirring as he simply watched Kamui.

Again, the familiarity needled him. And the man's admission that he had entered his dreams (without his permission. He was sure of that) added fuel to the fire. He chose not to retaliate, calmly staring the man down with steely eyes. He would get his answers, willingly or unwillingly should it come down to that. There were much more important things at hand.

"Don't make me repeat myself. I have no idea who you are."

It was true. Kakyou could tell that somehow Kamui had forgotten him, but he couldn't tell what else. He carefully stood up, holding onto his outer robe that had already slipped off his shoulder. Kakyou did not know this Kamui, but he knew that this was going to be difficult to explain without upsetting him.

He gave a small sigh, "I'm Kakyou, a Dragon of Earth and a dream seer."

A dragon of Earth! His mind flashed back briefly to the times he was attacked by one and his hackles rose. The scent of electricity flew from fingertip to fingertip, but still, he did not attack. Kakyou had revealed his identity too easily and a dream seer could free him from this place. Now, he thought, was not the time to be overly hasty.

He shrugged his shoulders, masking his face into one of nonchalance. His lips curled in disinterest, "And? You sound like you've met me before." It was a shot in the dark, but he was confident it'll strike something in this pale, ghostly man.

He remained lax and awaited any retalation. In a fight with Kamui, Kakyou knew he would not win nor have any means to defend himself, if he even wished to fight at all. He closed his eyes gently, speaking softly and clearly, "I have in a dream that you've forgotten. Kamui, what is the last thing you remember?"

A dull ache rose in his chest as he awaited the answer, knowing it would already be one that would assure him that Kamui had truly forgotten that day. Whether he closed his heart or if something worse had occurred was something Kakyou could not tell.

The last thing he remembered. He wracked his brain, his mind feeling heavy and foggy under the rain. It was as if someone had plucked them out of his head and rearranged its tracks. He shook his head unconsciously and murmured, "I was at Fuuma and Kotori's house..." he trailed off, his memory feeling inadequate and incomplete. He pursed his lips angrily and stared at the ground, "They were there with me. That's all."

Thinking about Fuuma and Kotori made him stumble. They could be hurt or in trouble and at the moment, he was in no position to help them. The thought burned at his heart like a foreign throb and he curled his hands into fists. He refused to look at Kakyou. The man had too honest and too sad eyes for him to perceive for long.

Kakyou couldn't help the small twinge in his eyes as he heard Kotori's name, bowing his head lower to veil himself in his hair and hide another sorrow in his heart. Words escaped him, yet he knew he had to press on. . . The decision to bear his sorrow and fight again or remain trapped as he was now was Kamui's choice. Only one would lead to the future he sought, but perhaps this was the beginning of undecided future that only Kamui could bring about.

"Do you wish to know the future you've forgotten? Even if it is filled with great sorrow and will only hurt you?"

He flinched. The idea of knowing the future was highly tempting to say the least and knowing it could protect Kotori and Fuuma. But, how much would it hurt? Could he still change it? These questions spun in his head endlessly, burning in the back of his neck. He didn't want to face either possibility and this weakened him. He was not strong...never strong enough to face this.

He kept quiet, hoping his silence would answer for him.

It was a welcome sight to see parts of Kamui, the boy, not the catalyst, that he had known begin to show even if his determination was absent. He made no motion to show it, simply waiting for his answer as the rain cascaded around them while he remained dry. After a few moments, he lifted his head to calmly watch Kamui.

"I don't know how we are meeting like this, but should we meet in dream again then you can make your decision."

Kamui simply nodded. He could now make out what Kakyou was; friend or foe, but his words were a welcome relief. He didn't want to make a choice, a choice that could have dire consequences.

He preferred to run.

At the moment, he simply nodded at Kakyou in a consenting manner. He would tolerate the man's presence for now.

He had done as much as he could for now. The decision Kamui had to make was left to him, and Kakyou simply had to wait as he was so used to.
