GIRL FRIENDS #16
"Let's talk about acting in Shimokitazawa"
Unique record shops, rich bookstores, little ancient theaters. Full of their subcultural interests and holding their cameras the two young men walk in Shimokitazawa.

Kato and Maruyama during last issue's shooting said that they'd like to visit Shimokita. That's why we brought them here this time...but when we told them they already forgot to have mentioned it. What happened there?!

M: Here we are! Shimokita!
S: We're in Shimokita...Shimokita ni kita! (=We arrived in Shimokita).
M: (Ignoring him) There are so many different things here, it looks so interesting!
S: It's fun, isn't it. When I come here to watch plays I often go to Village Vanguard (a subcultural bookstore) or to record shops.
M: Eh~ I come here to do shopping, eat or just walk around. Most recently I came here to watch G2's play.
S: I don't come here since that too~
M: That day I ate here waiting for the play to start.
S: Alone?
M: Yep. I bought coffee and played Taiko no Tatsujin in the game center.
S: You play that game also in private life*?
M: Sure. I also scored a full combo! But I was embarrassed to be seen there so I disguised myself (lol).

[*Kanjani8 have a TVshow where Taiko no Tatsujin game is included]

The two walk around Shimokitazawa after a long time. Looking at the shops and the typical people living here somehow their fantasies start to fly...

S: Don't you like girls who love analogue records?
M: Ah~ You do, right?
S: I'd love something like...I'm searching for old records here in Shimokita and when I raise my head I meet the eye with a girl searching records as well... (blushes)
M: That would be nice!
S: Honestly it would be better if that happened in a place like Brooklyn in New York though.
M: That would be too much ideal! I would like to share a house!
S: Me too. They still do that?
M: I did! It was one of my boy dream when I came to Tokyo.
S: There's no way we can do that now though.
M: It's nice when you come back home and there's somebody. I want to say "Tadaima!" Then, I want to surprise somebody. Like: "PAN PAN PAN! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
S: Ahahah!
M: Don't you want to fall in love?
S: Eh~ What a pain! Especially if somebody in the apartment starts dating somebody. By the way Maruyama-kun, you don't really like people to see your house, right?
M: Not my personal room. Only the space that can be used by everybody. I would try to make that space look pretty and clean. Like, if you come to stay at my place for a night I would think to a place for you to put your stuff. Of course without disturbing the other residents. Basically, I never want to bother anybody. Well, by living you always bother somebody though.
S: So menial! Well, it's a give-and-take.

[I love to browse record shops and I always fantasize to meet the perfect guy too! Should go doing that in Shimokita...or Brooklyn... 無理 orz But after all, as Shige, I think love is a pain XD
I have no idea why Maru started talking about sharing a house XD]

After Maruyama confessed his wish to live in a shared house, they finally arrive to Village Vanguard. Kato recommends some mangas to Maruyama while they browse the shop and buy the items that caught their attention.

M: Lately I'm hooked to the "Walking Dead" DVDs. The TVshow actually originates from a comic book.
S: Recently I bought something about Tanizaki Jun'ichiro, I've always been interested in him. Then Ango Sakaguchi's "On Decadence". There are also electronic version but it's better to have the material book to give it a quick check while writing. Then I bought "Hirahira" a new ukiyo-e manga by Okadaya Tetsuo. I also bought mangas by Suehiro Maruo, I've been interested about those.
M: You've got so many interests!
S: I also like to talk with otaku-ish clerks.

The next step of their subcultural trip is a road where many ancient little theaters follow one another, so they started talking about acting.

S: It's been a while since my last acting job. Maruyama-kun had "Yo ni mo kimyouna monogatari", right?
M: It was so hard. Like joking seriously. The director had a clear image in mind for me. When he finally gave me the OK I realized I got close to that image of his. Right now I'm watching movies and dramas to be better on my next opportunity. I try to study consciously. Do you do that too?
S: I mostly watch things thinking "How did they film this?" When it's about acting you can only try to do it. No matter how many things you watch, you can grasp the idea, but it's impossible to improve just watching somebody else play.
M: It's always different from how you would do that.
S: Seeing a good piece before its beginning you can see the passion, the frustration, the energy behind it. I've always say I'd like to be one day a director or a producer but after all the thing I like the most is to act.
M: The actors are responsible of a great part of the play's world. What kind of role would you like?
S: I want to have a gun.
M: You already did that.
S: Ah! Right, in "Troubleman"! A policeman would be nice.
M: Answering seriously, I want to do a role that I can do only now. I'd like to do roles as a killer or a libertine when I'll be older. If it was a historical drama I'd like to play the role of a page. Like Mori Ranmaru, keeping a good balance to the man playing Nobunaga. Even if I'm a little older for that role I think it can still work.
S: Of course.
M: If I were to do a historical play I'd like to play Amakusa Shiro. Like this I can say I played all the three so-called "beautiful boys". Mori Ranmaru, Okita Soji and Amakusa Shiro.
S: I've never done a historical play.
M: There are less of them now~
S: Then, isn't it sad that we can't play the role of students anymore? We've got the age to play the teachers, right?
M: We can still be the students! They just have to raise the age of all the cast.
S: I see~ I would like to do that once more, the last time. Because the last time I played the role of a student I didn't realize it was my last time.
M: If you get the chance now it'd be the last time for real. I'd like to have a graduation ceremony scene.
S: I started playing a student after all.
M: Right! Nice! I've never been a student. Always a worker (lol). Always wearing suits.
S: Suits are good, I wore those pretty often soon. I also played a photographer though.
M: Nice, that was quite sensual. It would be great to work together.
S: I'd love to have a theater play with you.
M: You would see my bad sides though.
S: It would be the same for you.
M: I think there's no way we can stop liking each other now. But you would scold me: "You have to come here knowing your lines properly!"
S: Well, I'd like you to do it seriously (lol).
M: I do memorize them~ but somehow I can't seem to pull them out from my head.
S: I won't get angry for that, don't worry!

[Loved when Shige just said "I want to have a gun" XD He sounded like a kid~ Those two always sound like children XD]

The friendship between these two became stronger and already...unbreakable? :D ♥
