10 movies in 1 month - August

Sep 01, 2011 00:34

Sadly August is over and so is vacation...from tomorrow I must absolutely start studying since my first exams will begin in few weeks. That's a good shock. Anyway, August was a busy month to watch movies since I was away from home and went in holiday but somehow I completed the list this month too :) These are the movies I watched in the last but one month of my project! Enjoy reading ^^

Cedar Rapids (4.8) & Hot Tube Time Machine (5.8)

August is the month of comedy movies, definitely. Let's begin with these two...they were cute, ok. Cedar Rapids is about this awkward man with no experience in life who finds himself into a new little world and gives you a lot of second-hand embarrassment. The story is nothing of special but it's enjoyable, I guess. Don't know, I like to watch comedy movies because they're easy but I must admit that they leave you nothing, I had to think a little before remembering what this was about XD
Hot Tube Time Machine was better, expecially because this lot of dummies fall back in the 80s and have to live again their teenager days. My love for 80s is endless so I loved it, the comedy was as usual cheap and sex-centered but it was really funny from time to time. I also liked the ending not very predictable ^^ As always, I recommend them if you really have nothing to do and you want to laugh a little.

The Hitcher (7.8) & Deer Woman (Master of Horror) (13.8)

LOL. That's a good way to start a review, don't you think? XD I didn't plan to watch these two movies. They were on the TV and I watched them because other people wanted to. What a bad idea. The Hitcher was supposed to be a thriller movie, it also has Sean Beam who is a very good actor. The problem is that this movie has no plot and no reasons to exist. So, there's this man who's doing autostop and this young couple that barely hit him, from there on it's only a mess. The hitcher starts to follow the couple and try to kill them but during the movie you never understand why, he's simply a psycho. So stupid, they could at least create some kind of background, history about him. Really, it was such a meaningless movie.
Talking about nonsense movies, I introduce you Deer Woman. I was with my friends and it was late at night when this "horror movie" started. It talks about a couple of policemen who investigate about some weird murders, people trampled to death. Then a red indian comes and tells the story of the deer woman who only kills men. Ok, not bad. You want to know how was this deer woman though? It was a stuffed mascot! The ones of school's sport teams! It was ridiculous! I could understand if it was a movie from the 50s but it was made in 2005! Hilarious, we laughed so much. God bless the trash. If you're a lover of trash movies you have to watch it. Funny fact is that when we searched on the web some info about this movie we found out that the director is John Landis and many reviews say that it's a masterpiece. That's absurd 8D

Dylan Dog (8.8) & Tekken (29.8)

Bad movies. Again. Alert: I will not be objective in the review of Dylan Dog. I think that most of people don't know who is he so I'll be short, I know that I can be boring as much as Shige when I talk about things that to me are important and the rest of the world don't care ç_ç Dylan Dog is the main character of an Italian comic, I read it since I was a kid. It's a horror comic, very dark, gruesome and serious. Then American producers come and decide to make a movie from it, but they realize that more than 30 years of story is a little too much for a single movie and they plan to just use the name and the background and make a stupid adventure movie. So, this movie has nothing to do with the comic. It's like a long episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A horror movie for kids, they threw away all the serious matters and the very complicated character of the protagonist. If I didn't know anything about the real Dylan Dog I'd probably have said that it's a funny, cool movie so I think that you who don't know the comic will enjoy it anyway ._. Sorry for the nit-picking.
Tekken was another of my kid's totem...the movie was cheap, boring, useless. Here too the story of the game was too long and there were too many characters for a movie so that's all they got from it. A movie that you can safely avoid watching.

Pretty in Pink (25.8) & St. Elmo's Fire (30.8)

After all this bad movies I had to go back to something I like. As I said before I love 80s so here they are, two of the most cult movies of those years. Weirdly I haven't watched them yet. Pretty in Pink is the love story between a loser, poor girl and a popular, rich boy. The plot as you can imagine is common but the characters are all adorable, obviously since it's the Brat Pack, the most famous group of actors of the 80s :) You can see some of them again in St. Elmo's Fire which is some kind of a sequel for Breakfast Club, if you've seen it. Here there's a group of friends experiencing the hard life after college between work, love, marriage, drugs and depression. I could feel it a lot maybe because I'm near to it too and I'm totally lost. Here too the characters and actors are lovely. I recommend them both (plus Breakfast Club which is one of my favourite movies ever and a MUST-see). Then, who can resist to 80s' fashion? :P

Horrible Bosses (27.8) & Bridesmaids (28.8)

I end my review with other two August's comedy movies. Horrible Bosses is brilliant, not to mention all the good actors in it (Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey...) but also the plot and the comedy is funny and interesting. It talks about three friends who plan to kill they very awful and mean bosses. It made me laugh a lot and that's not so common! Highly recommended!
Bridesmaids was a little worst but still nice, it's the story of a marriage where the main character is the single and desperate best friend of the bride. It's funny, it has many hilarious scenes and a cute love story. Anyway just the day before I watched it my friend told "If women ruled the world there would be no wars", after this movie...oh gosh that's so not true! And to quote Shige...WOMEN ARE SCARY.
