I am reading "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. I avoided the book most of the time it was on the best seller lists because of the subject matter, but now that it's available in paperback I decided it would only cost me $9.00 if I couldn't finish it.
The book is so difficult I've had it for 5 days and can only read it in small, measured doses. It's so exquisitely, understatedly painful I'm afraid to become immersed in it for fear I won't be able to function. Grief, tragedy, redemption, revenge; all these epic themes are dealt with in a suburban, pedestrian setting that seems to highlight how wonderful/terrible life can be.
You should read it. With Kleenex.
