A trivial question - answered
About a week ago, I asked what the following dates were:
* 6 September 1880
* 10 July 1884
* 21 July 1884
* 1 June 1899
* 29 June 1899
* 29 May 1902
* 3 July 1902
* 5 June 2003
* 8 July 2009 (Assumed)
The answer is that they are the dates that each of the test grounds hosted their first home England game. I just found it an intriguing list, as there was a 101 year gap between 1902 (Edgbaston and, weirdly, Bramall Lane, which only hosted one test, and hasn't been used for cricket since 1973) and then the Riverside in Durham in 2003. The 'assumed' date is for Sophia Gardens, in Cardiff, assuming that the first Ashes does indeed happen there, as it is planned to, later this summer
