Question for the day...
Molly_may went to Dragoncon's Nick Brendon Q&A. Among other interesting things, Nick said that instead of poking out Xander's eye, Joss initially intended to kill him in DIRTY GIRLS but decided against it. This was news to me (I don't know about anyone else)
Since we haven't been able to speculate on spoilers in years, how do you think that would have changed the series?
I could actually see Anya lashing out in pain and hurt in EMPTY PLACES and Buffy just leaving the mission to Faith. If that was the case, would TOUCHED have been more about all of her friends telling Buffy that they still had faith in her?
OTOH, would it play as it had previously, but in EMPTY PLACES, instead of being a party pooper after Xander got home from the hospital, Would Buffy have marched into Xander's funeral (or just after) and demanded everyone go to the vineyard? (which would have made the scoobie viewpoint a whole lot more sympathetic--actually, Buffy would have seemed like Psycho Buffy, if this had occurred)
Anyway, I am speculating that Joss had this idea for Xander and then opted to use it on Wesley instead when ATS ended. After all, both were human, started off as geeky, both of their lives pretty much sucked and both didn't have any superpowers...
