There's LAPD, and then there's what should be called LA-Z-PD but is in regular life referred to as NYPD. these folk instead of making punishment for wrongdoers inevitable, want their job made as easy as possible. take their highest ranked uniformed officer Jeff Maddrey, who in a total turnaround from NYC policy of the last couple years, has called on people coming into places like deli stores and other businesses, to take off their masks, and on biz owners to actually deny entrance visitors in masks. coz u c, that makes identifying and catching criminals such as robbers, harder. how things change; i remember a year or so ago an asshole visitor(not even a real customer, just a rowdy bum) refusing to put on a mask while at a deli store, claiming there's no law mandating it even though there was--now there'll be every chance to see exactly opposite, as bums might refuse to PULL THEIR MASKS DOWN(caue you see, at this point it's not authorities' demand but only a suggestion). and you know what? i've almost not worn a mask in the last year or so, since the situation started easing, but now out of principle might start doing it again. fact is, pandemic is not fully defeated. fact is, public health advocates are begging city leadership to reinstall mask mandate for mass transit, if nothing else, because health hazard remains and many folk, especially seniors or those already gone through COVID, are scared of getting out. fact is also, robberies and other similar crime are actually down compared to a year ago, so there's no need for LA-Z-PD to demand people pull their masks. and i'm pretty sure face recognition technology can see though a mask, if it's a good technology and especially if it's run by professional hands.
bottomline: no, Maddrey, don't tell me to pull my mask down. Tell your LA-Z-PD troops to do their jobs, to catch those they should, protect the ones needing protection, while refraining from violating those not deserving it, sometimes with lethal outcomes. tell them to not lie about their powers, tell them to not take 2 hours and 4 911 calls to arrive and then still do nothing, quite possibly lying about extent of their powers just to avoid extra effort; oh and also tell them not to set innocent people up for drug charges, not to be so careless with fire as to set entire archives on fire, and not to jump out of their windows at first sign of depression. actually, that last point you can scrap: some of your subjects should actually do exactly that.
