So I plan to answer the why. Because my dad and I got into an arguement about why I can listen to music that I can't understand, and why I'm so into asian culture when I can't understand the languages spoken. Why? Because I'm sick of American music for one(to cover the music side of it). What really good has come outta out music industry these past few years? Most of the songs are about sex and drugs and whores and death and killing. Music today doesn't have any substance, it's just made for beats that people can dance to. I hate songs like that. Yes, the actual music in the song is important, but what about the lyrics? I'm sorry but saying the same 2 sentences over and over isn't lyrics. It's annoying. The only music I stand to listen to is what they play on 106.5 now, but sometimes that's even annoying. So, when I first got into j-pop/rock and heard the voices of these people it really had me addicted. Then I moved to k-pop/rock. Some of these people are 10 times talented than anyone we have here. But just because it's in a different language people don't listen to it. Frankly I think it's dumb. To miss out on something only because you're so lazy to get up and look up the translated lyrics. Usually I listen to a new song out by whoever it is that's singing it. I don't know what they're saying but the music is awsome, the voice/voices are great...then I go after a couple times I listen to it and look up the translated lyrics. Usually 100% of the time I completely fall in love with the song after I look up the lyrics to it. Because they actually have substance. And most of them I can relate to, or smile at, or absolutely melt because of how sweet it is.
So that's why I listen.
Why I'm so into asian culture?
Because it has so many components that America has long lost in its pride and ignorance. I love living in America, don't get me wrong, the freedoms are nice. But our country really isn't like it use to be in the 20's or even 20 years ago.
We're only focused on being the best, but what's being the best without values?
So, respect is a strong thing in Asian society. It's HUGE, respect and honoring your elders. There's so many different ways to show that, by calling them a respectful term like: noona and hyung etc for korean...those are just a couple examples I'd get more into it but I don't feel like it. Competition is high to because it's always about being the best at what you do. I mean, how do you think they've earned the stereotype of being so smart? I'm not saying they all are genious but they at least know how to work hard to earn what they want. And creativity is something that just comes natural to many of them...I've noticed that most of them have some talent.
Their food is awsome. lol. Sushi is so good, well..at least until you eat so much you think you're stomach's going to explode all over the place then go out into like 90 degree weather and it feels like it's cooking in your stomach (hehe, aunt jenni we need to never eat that much ever again!) My aunt kim she makes chinese food all the time and my gosh it's like 10 times better than any restaraunt i've been to. I've always said i'll try anything at least once, so this summer in China I'm not going to ask what I'm trying until after I eat it >_< lol.
Ok, so I might just sound rediculous...puh...I just really can't put into a lot of words what got me hooked on all things asian. I can't tell you all of it, just some.
My parents pick on me all the time that I'm going to have redheaded asian babies, and hell maybe so. Because you know what? I think asian guys are gorgeous and I'm not embarrassed to say that. Their skin, their eyes, their facial structures, all gorgeous. And I'd kill for hair that shiny and healthy looking. It's sad I've seen so many korean/japanese dramas and movies that I don't even see them as asian anymore, sometimes I'm like "he can't be asian" cause I don't really notice the slanted eyes...yeah it might sound crazy rediculous but I dont....
This might be a rediculously long rant that no one cares about..but...whatever. I just had to get it off my chest cause I don't think too many people know why I like what I do.
So, that's end rant one. Of why I like asian things. lol.
