It’s You
Hankyung stood in the shadows, clenching and unclenching his fists nervously as he waited for Heechul to emerge out of his dressing room. No matter how much he tried to push it away, the jealousy wouldn’t stop crawling up his stomach and into his throat, giving him a bad taste in his mouth. When Heechul finally opened the door, Hankyung stepped from his corner. “Heechul…” He got Heechul’s attention and pulled him into the shadows.
Heechul looked at him expectantly and Hankyung swallowed the desire to just kiss Heechul’s lips until they were red and shook his head. “Heechul, I can’t…I can’t just sit and wait while I know what you’re about to do…” Hankyung hated how his voice came out feeble and desperate. Of all things he did not want Heechul to see him in such a vulnerable state.
Heechul sighed and lifted his hand up, cupping Hankyung’s face and kissing him gently on the lips. “You promised.” He sighed into Hankyung’s mouth. “You promised you wouldn’t be jealous.” Heechul pulled back and looked into Hankyung’s eyes. He tried to smile reassuringly at him. “Can’t help but surrender my everything to you. Remember? No matter what, it will all be okay. Now, please, I have to do this.”
Hankyung smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. How could he smile when his true love was about to sleep with someone else? Hankyung held Heechul’s hand to his face, relishing in its warmth. He gently lifted it and traced kisses along the palm. Heechul felt like his heart was shattering into glass. “Hankyung, I have to go. He’s waiting for me.” He almost choked on the sobs that were threatening to bubble out of his throat.
Hankyung nodded and he dropped Heechul’s hand. “I’ll come back to you. It’ll be fine, baby.” Heechul put as much comfort in his voice as he could. Hankyung nodded again, his eyes were lost. Heechul swallowed his tears and walked away, the minute he was out of earshot he leaned against the wall and started to sob. He never thought that he would hurt Hankyung so badly. Why was it so hard for him to have a normal relationship? Heechul took a deep breath and was surprised when he didn’t cough. It was happening more frequently lately.
He made his way to the large hotel room that the Duke had rented for them to spend the night in. Of course, it always paid to have money. Heechul felt his stomach churn when he opened the large, intricately designed, oak door to reveal Siwon standing there. His suit was perfectly ironed and everything about him was neatly arranged, his hair, his shoes were perfectly polished. It made Heechul sick to know that his heart was obviously as black as the tie he was wearing.
“Good Evening dear Duke, I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.” Heechul let a slow smile creep onto his face as he sauntered over to where Siwon was standing.
“You’ve kept me waiting long enough.” The Duke smiled, but Heechul shivered in the meaning behind the words. It was a stab directly aimed at him.
“Well, I’m here now.” Heechul smiled and wrapped his arms around the man’s hips. The touch made his skin crawl. For a fleeting minute he wondered how he would be able to keep his lunch while he was straddling Siwon. He shook his head, no need to put that image in his mind before the time came.
“I knew that you would chose me. That writer isn’t good for you,” Siwon smiled and Heechul kept his face turned away. “He can’t give you what you want in life, but you’re smart. You know I can.” Siwon smirked and he reached down to pick up a very expensive looking jewelry box. Out of it he pulled the most gorgeous-and expensive-choker that Heechul had ever seen. Despite himself he let out a small gasp and moved closer to the Duke.
“See what you can have? It’s all about choosing the right answer.” Siwon turned him towards a long mirror and put the choker around Heechul’s neck.
Heechul looked at his reflection. Siwon stood behind him, his hands were still lingering on the back of Heechul’s neck. He couldn’t deny it. Having this much money would be amazing. However, the smile on Siwon’s face gave Heechul the creeps. It was like he knew he had already won. What he didn’t know was that no matter what sizable amount of money the Duke had, there was absolutely no competition. Hankyung had his heart, and though it would be nice if he had the money too, Heechul was perfectly happy without it. Heechul turned and smiled up at Siwon. “Thank you dearest Duke, you really shouldn’t have.” He lifted himself up on his toes and gently kissed Siwon on the mouth. Heechul felt Siwon smile in his lips and fought the urge to bite his tongue.
Hankyung sat at a table a little ways from the rest of the performers. Each was waiting anxiously with the news that Heechul had gone through with his job. Heechul was their only hope to a better life, but all Hankyung could do was pick up his drink and down his sorrows away. It had been an hour since Heechul had left him to stand miserably in that dark corner. The only thing he could think to do was drink. It numbed him, not that it took all of the pain away, but it helped.
Jessica sauntered down the small walkway and plopped on his lap. Hankyung ignored her and just poured himself another drink. She leaned into whisper into his ear, causing Hankyung’s stomach to lurch. “Where is your boy tonight? I hope he is a gentleman.” She pulled back smiling but Hankyung reached his hand back, wanting to slap the smile off her face. Someone grabbed his hand from behind him so Hankyung shoved Jessica off of his lap with the other, getting up quickly and pulling his hand out of Kibum’s grasp. Jessica growled in anger. “You have no right to lay a hand on me!”
Hankyung just picked his glass back up and took a swig.
Kibum shook his head and went to Jessica, making sure that she was all right before turning back to Hankyung. “There are only a few simple rules to life, Hankyung. One of them is you don’t fall in love with someone who sells themselves, it always ends bad!” Kibum slammed his fist on the table, causing everyone in the general area to jump. “There’s a song I know, about a man who loves someone completely. It doesn’t matter, whether you two share love. His job is to sell himself and money is more important than your love.” Kibum spit the last two words out and Hankyung sat back down, his hand gripping his glass so hard that he was worried it would shatter.
Kibum smiled a little. “How many times do you have to be torn? You’re agonizing over it, becoming resentful. Even though you see the inescapable outcome, you can’t give him up.” Hankyung sighed and stood up, weaving in and out of the crowd that gathered.
“I’m following your skinny shadow, and I steal a glance, pretending I’m looking elsewhere. All of this is ridiculous, but I can’t give you up, I can only breathe you.” Hankyung continued to walk, the room was starting to become too stuffy, and he needed fresh air. “Just like that, can’t get caught-I’m dangerous. I’m more than a starved beast. Don’t misunderstand, when I see you I’m merely a hopeless, thirsty, anxious, blind fool!”
Hankyung took another swig from the glass in his hand. He was starting to feel the familiar sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. How long had it been since Heechul had went to meet with the Duke? Too long, he couldn’t control the anger at everyone and everything around him. He slammed his hand into the closest wall. “Tell me with those red lips that you love me. I can’t stand the idea of his hands, his lips, touching you.” Hankyung stumbled out of the building, walking quickly down the dark and lonely road ahead of him. He happened to gaze up at the hotel building in front of him. He saw two figures on the balcony and his stomach lurched. “What are these mixed up feelings?” He exclaimed loudly to the two on the balcony, the wind would probably drown out his words before they reached the two. “But, just like that, I follow you.” He continued to stare at the two figures.
Heechul tried to close his eyes and get lost in Siwon’s kisses that were going down his neck. The night air was cool and it felt good on his skin. It helped his nausea some, too. Heechul sighed and tilted his head to the side, to give Siwon more room to do whatever he wanted. His hands slid around Heechul’s waist and Heechul wrapped his hands around his arms. He happened to look down and saw a dark figure looking up at them. Heechul’s heart lurched and he moved a little away from Siwon. He whispered, “For me, It’s you…it’s only you. Why don’t you know? For me, it’s you…” Heechul pulled completely out of Siwon’s arms. “No....”
Siwon lifted his head and looked at Heechul in confusion. “No?” His eyes followed Heechul to see the dark figure and he laughed. “Oh, I see. Our writer decided to watch the show.” Heechul slapped Siwon’s hands from his waist.
“I’m sorry, I can’t do it.” Heechul turned from the Duke and left him standing on the balcony. He started to pick up his discarded shirt but Siwon grabbed him roughly by the arm and swung him around.
“What do you mean you can’t do it?” Siwon growled in his face and Heechul stared at him, a sudden fear of not wanting to know what this man was capable of hit him. Heechul tried to pry Siwon’s grip from his arm but the hand just tightened. He whimpered in pain. “You pretended to love me, you led me on like a lost puppy. Did it satisfy you to know that I watched your every move, that I practically worshiped the ground you stood on?” Siwon pulled Heechul across the hotel room and Heechul’s eyes widened when he realized that Siwon was pulling him towards the bedroom.
“No, Siwon, I told you, I can’t do this with you.” Heechul pleaded for Siwon to let him go. He probably apologized several times before Siwon spun around and threw him on the bed.
“Do you think you have any choice in the matter? Choi Siwon always gets what he wants, no matter what he has to do.” Siwon ripped the button from Heechul’s pants and Heechul screamed.
“Don’t do this Siwon!” Heechul felt the hot tears of his fear falling down his face. “Do you really want it to happen like this?”
“Kim Heechul will be mine.” Siwon smiled and pulled Heechul’s pants down his legs. Heechul could only scream as Siwon began undressing himself. He continued to plead with the man, apologizing for the ways he treated him, but Siwon wouldn’t listen and he roughly turned Heechul onto his back.
“Wait!” Heechul couldn’t believe that Siwon was being so careless. “You can’t just do this!”
“What, are you afraid of a little pain, Heechul?” Siwon positioned himself over Heechul and smirked. “Lets just consider this your lesson for today.” Before he was able to thrust into Heechul something hit him from the side and he fell, stars bursting in front of his eyes. Siwon couldn’t reason anymore and he blacked out.
Heechul was shaking as he pulled himself up by his elbows and turned himself around. He anxiously grabbed the sheets of the bed and pulled them over him. Eeteuk was standing over the Duke, a heavy statue was in his hand and it fell to the ground with a thump. Eeteuk looked like he wanted to murder Siwon. Heechul stood up and grabbed his pants. They were torn at the front but he still managed to pull them on. It was some sort of protection. Heechul started to shake and felt the tears flow down his face. “Oh God, Eeteuk, not that I don’t appreciate it, but what are you doing here?”
Eeteuk walked closer to him and wrapped Heechul in a hug. “I heard screaming, I always come to check on you. You never know when someone will want to use force.”
Heechul sobbed into Eeteuk’s shoulder. “He almost raped me.” Heechul felt Eeteuk’s shoulders shake and realized that he was sobbing too.
“I know baby, I’m sorry!” Eeteuk continued to hold Heechul until the sobs slowed.
When Heechul was able to control his tears he pulled away from Eeteuk. “I have to go to Hankyung.”
Eeteuk nodded and they walked through the grand hotel room, Heechul grabbed his shirt along the way.
Hankyung sat on his small couch and stared at the door. He was waiting for something, someone to burst through his doors and give him the news that all was well. Heechul did his part and so everything was saved! Hankyung couldn’t imagine why he wasn’t so thrilled about that idea.
When his door finally did burst open, it was not who Hankyung thought it would be. First entered Eeteuk and Hankyung just stared at him. He had never really thought Eeteuk was too fond of him. Heechul followed him, and Hankyung immediately forgot the mystery of why Eeteuk was in his apartment to focus on the fact that Heechul’s face was covered in tears.
Hankyung moved to stand in front of Heechul and Heechul grabbed him, pulling him close and burying his face into Hankyung’s neck. Hankyung felt fresh tears fall onto his neck and Heechul started to blab incoherently.
“What happened, Heechul? Tell me, what did Siwon do?” Hankyung pulled Heechul away from the crook of his neck to look at his face. He gently tucked a piece of Heechul’s damp hair behind his ear.
“I couldn’t do it, Hankyung. I tried but it sickened me. Everything about Siwon made my skin crawl. Then, I saw you standing below us and I knew just then that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Siwon saw you too, and then…he tried…” Heechul sobbed harder and Hankyung turned to Eeteuk.
“He didn’t try to…force him…did he?” Hankyung felt his anger explode. Eeteuk looked at the floor and that was all the answer Hankyung needed.
Heechul lifted his eyes to Hankyung’s. “What are we going to do?” It was the first time Hankyung had seen Heechul so lost. Heechul was usually in control of everything.
Hankyung kissed Heechul’s forehead gently. “Don’t worry, we’ll just leave.”
Heechul stared at him. “Leave? I can’t just leave…this is my home.”
“We’ll just make a new home, where you’ll be able to live without worry. Our love will survive, you’ll see!” Hankyung took Heechul’s hands and looked into his eyes. “Please, leave with me.”
Heechul felt a small smile form on his lips and he nodded.
“Alright then, Eeteuk, can you get Heechul home without being noticed? I’ll get our train tickets and meet me here the earliest you can, okay?” Heechul nodded and Hankyung kissed his lips. “Everything will be okay, you’ll see.”
Hankyung watched with a smile as Eeteuk and Heechul left, Heechul kept looking back at him and smiling. Maybe now their life could finally begin.
Siwon, instantly after awaking in his hotel room, dressed and found himself in Kangin’s office. His anger was about to boil over and Kangin nervously adjusted his tie. “My dearest Duke, I’m terribly sorry for what happened. I do not know what is wrong with Heechul.”
Siwon smiled, but it was a twisted, insane smile. “Kangin, don’t you remember what I said in the beginning? I always get what’s rightfully mine. It isn’t a choice for Heechul anymore. Tell him if he does not come to me, I will kill his penniless writer.” Siwon snapped his fingers and Kyuhyun emerged from the shadows, he gracefully swept his jacket away from his pants to indicate the gun in its holster on his belt. “Now, do I make myself clear?”
Kangin swallowed hard, and nervously fiddled with his hands. “Crystal clear, dear Duke.”
Siwon smiled. There would be nothing that he would not have.
Heechul scrambled around his room stuffing only the necessities into the small suit case that Eeteuk had lent him. He would repay him some day he was sure of it. He was chattering excitedly to Eeteuk and Eeteuk was nodding sadly to each thing he said. “So, when we leave I want him to take me to where he grew up. I want to see his family!” Heechul practically was beaming. He didn’t think he could be this happy but Hankyung brought it out in him easily.
Heechul turned to put another garment in the suitcase and gasped. Kangin was standing in the doorway. He was staring at Heechul with a look of betrayal on his face, but Heechul recovered, sliding the clothes into the bag and turning back around.
“I’m leaving, Kangin.” Heechul turned and looked at Kangin steadily. “Hankyung and I are leaving together.”
Kangin shook his head. “What do you plan on living off of-your love? Will struggling for food bring you happiness?”
Heechul sighed. “You always made me believe that the only reason someone would want me would be if they paid for me! Hankyung loves me Kangin, he loves me!”
Kangin stared at him for a minute and then looked down at the floor. “You’re dying, Heechul.”
The pants Heechul were holding slipped out of his grasp and landed in the floor. “What…?” Heechul desperately looked at Eeteuk and he nodded. Tears filled Heechul’s eyes and he shook his head. “It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter. I’ll live out the rest of my life with Hankyung.”
Kangin shook his head. “The Duke says that if you do not go to him he’ll have Hankyung killed.”
Heechul felt like someone had punched him in the stomach. “He’ll kill Hankyung?”
Kangin nodded.
Heechul fell to his knees. The happiness he felt moments before was just a memory as the sobs shook his whole body. “What do I do?”
Kangin sighed and walked to Heechul, kneeling down and rubbing his back. “Lie to him. Tell him you can’t be with him, tell him the Duke is the one you truly love.”
Heechul sobbed and shook his head. “I can’t.”
“Lie to him to save him. It’s the only way.” Kangin felt his heart break and looked up to see Eeteuk sobbing quietly in the corner.
“I can’t fly with broken wings, I’m so sorry.” Heechul picked himself from the ground and walked to his suitcase. He pulled all of his clothes out of it and placed them on his bed. Eeteuk shook his head as he handed the suitcase back to him. “There’s no other way, Eeteuk. I can’t let him die. Sometimes lying is the only way.”
