My good deed of the day

To help the local flood victims, there are a number of fund-raisers going on around town today. I was going to take the kids down to Heinz Field where, for a donation, you could get player autographs (I'd love to meet Jerome and talk asthma with him!) and then tour the players' locker room. Alas, exhausto-girl put an end to THAT ambition.

But it gets better. I've raved in this journal about my local radio station before. Today, all Clear Channel stations in the area are doing a "pay to play" -- you make a donation, they'll play your song.

So I got Bocan, the evening jock, on the air and made my request. Back before most people had heard of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones -- must have been in '91 or '92 -- they did a cover of a song that was one of the funniest things I'd ever heard. I was on air back then and I'd play it instead of the original, which was new and current and hot -- and hotly debated. Had the band sold out? What WAS this shit??? And who knew Hetfield could sing?

Yes, friends, I'm talking about The Black Album.

The song: Enter Sandman.

You ain't NEVER heard it until you've heard it with horns.
