As I'm sure anyone reading this journal more than once knows, I'm a football fan in general and a Redskins fan in particular.
I don't much like the Atlanta Falcons, though, and never have.
Today they have my sympathy, though.
It's been a craptastic season for the Falcons: Michael Vick. Injuries. A 3-10 (so far) record.
Now their coach -- Bobby Petrino, who's been with them for exactly 13 games (not even one whole season, folks!), has resigned and taken the head coaching job at the University of Arkansas. As if that's not bad enough, he was absolutely giddy with joy at the press conference held to announce the Arkansas move -- BEFORE he had even said word one to his players! Worse, he NEVER bothered to speak to the team face-to-face. He left the team a letter in the locker room.
Is it any wonder that the kindest thing any Falcon had to say was that Petrino was a hypocrite and a coward?
If he lasts two seasons at Arkansas, I'll be shocked. The Razorbacks have a well-known tendency to chew up head coaches and spit 'em out like two-day old gum. (Back in the Jurassic Era, I went to college in Arkansas, though not at the University of Arkansas, and even back then they were notorious for running through head coaches.)
No football team deserves that kind of treatment from its head coach. Dude, I wouldn't wish that kind of crap on (gulp) Dallas. Or even Philadelphia.
