So, yesterday was a day

After a lot of phone calls and crossed wires and everything else that the military is famous for, we were able to put Dad's (TBG's) ashes to rest at the Dixon Military Cemetery. It's a lovely place right outside of Vacaville, about an hour's drive from Stockon.

We had visited Rod there many times, but we hadn't been there for his ceremony. The honor guard did a lovely job. The rifle salute was very moving and the playing of Taps brought me to tears (but it always does). TBG read Dad's favorite poem and then we stopped off to visit Rod. I had brought some flowers for him and Barb buried some coins in front of his memorial.

The weather could not have been more perfect, sunny and mild. The rain never showed up and all in all, it was about as pleasant as such a thing can be.

Afterwards, we drove into Dixon to Dawon's Bar and Grill and lifted a glass to his memory and Rod's. The drive back was a bit slower because of traffic, but that was fine. We got about around four. The cats were certain they were never going to be fed again and were very happy to see me.

Needless to say, after sweating bullets about this for two months, TBG slept like a baby last night.

dad, good-bye
