Today started out like many mornings, a hot shower followed by many cups of coffee. I think I’ve gotten swapped over to this time period, but it still nails me at about 6 p.m. with the yawns.
Donna met us at 11, just after we checked out of the hotel. We had them store our luggage and we headed over to the Cathedral of St, Mary of the See. The day was a little cooler, which was nice. We had a very short wait to head into the Cathedral, but it wasn’t bad.
Again, it’s hard to know what to say or where to look. There was just so much that it was overwhelming. I was especially taken by the paintings, but there were also incredible statues and other artifacts, so many that my mind was officially blown.
From Wikipedia:
After its completion in the early 16th century, Seville Cathedral supplanted Hagia Sophia as the largest cathedral in the world, a title the Byzantine church had held for a thousand years.[4] The Gothic section alone has a length of 126 m (413 ft), a width of 76 m (249 ft), and its maximum height in the center of the transept is 42 m (138 ft). The total height of the Giralda tower from the ground to the weathervane is 104.5 m (342 ft 10 in). The Archbishop's Palace is located on the northeastern side of the cathedral. The interior has the longest nave of any cathedral in Spain.
There was so much to see and it sure was impressive. And there’s the tomb of both Christopher Columbus and his son, Hernando.
After we finished at the cathedral, we headed back to the hotel to pick up the car and drove out to Carrefour. It is always fun to go to a foreign grocery store and see what delights you can find.
By then it was nearly 3 p.m. and we were all ready to eat, so we had tapas, ham, cheese, a potato tortilla, bread, oranges and wine. It was just enough. Then it was siesta time and what not.
We started puttering around the kitchen after a little bit. We made Parmesan Chicken for dinner and it turned out pretty good, despite my forgetting to add the garlic powder to it. We sat and visited for the longest time. It was nice to just be a few steps from bed as opposed to another long walk.
