Sweetmeow, I hope you enjoy your tale! Thanks and thanks to my beta, Sparky!
He padded quietly from room to room. Rainy weather was not his favorite thing. Like most cats, Kitty wasn’t overly fond of water. It wasn’t that he felt it was totally useless. It was good for drowning prey and on hot veldt afternoons, it was a cooling drink.
It wasn’t that he felt bad. Nor did he feel well. He didn’t know what he wanted. Even tracking and running down Pugsley held no interest.
“Mother, Kitty is restless.”
Morticia Addams looked up from her task of cutting the heads off the roses. They were just so fresh and alive looking that they filled her with a dread. “When will those dreadful shops start selling proper roses… the dead kind?”
Wednesday didn’t point out that all cut flowers had one foot… petal… in the grave already. When her mother was like this, it was best to let things be. “Mother? Kitty?”
“It’s the rainy weather. I supposed it’s good that Cousin Vetch has already left.”
“But Kitty loved stalking him.” The corners of Wednesday’s mouth curled up slightly. She loved watching Kitty’s techniques.
“But I was tired of cleaning up his feathers. One good surprise and he started molting again.”
Kitty head butted Wednesday, nearly knocking her from her feet. “I know, Kitty. Would you like to play hide and seek?” The lion growled. “Is that a yes or no.”
The animal moved slowly away and then flopped down in from of the fireplace. It was smoldering delightfully now, filling the room with a choking smoke. After a moment, he got up and was on the move again.
“I think Kitty needs a friend.”
“You mean like Fester and that inmate he writes to?”
“No, more like one of Cousin Itt’s friends.”
“But they are all giggly and fragile.”
“True, but he loves them still.”
“So I should get Kitty something giggly and fragile… like Pugsley?”
“Or perhaps we will leave that to Kitty, shall we?” The lion paused by her side and she stroked his head. “What a good kitty.”
Usually, that would be enough to start him purring, but it didn’t help. Instead, he wandered into the hallway and began to cough. He hacked and hacked and suddenly, he felt much better.
Like the King of the Beast that he was, he walked proudly from the area.
“Mother, Kitty left us a hairball in the hallway.”
“I bet that’s what was bothering him.” She set down the shears and went to examine the mess more closely. “I wondered where you’d gotten to.”
Part of the lump moved and started to crawl away, only pausing to raise a threatening fist at her and unleash a string of gibberish.
“Don’t you use those words with me, Cousin Squish. You never should have let him catch you in the first place. He’s still only a kitten.” Morticia pulled down on the bell rope and the house shuddered from the resounding gong.
“You rang?”
“Yes, Lurch, Kitty left us a present in the hallway.”
The butler’s response was less than happy. Then a scream drew their attention and they watched through the windows as Kitty chased the postman.
“He’s back to normal.” She smiled benevolently at her daughter as Kitty chased the fleeing man from their property. He snatched up the mail bag and began to carry it back to the house, a proper catch. "Cats are a sweet reminder that love is nearby.”
“Their love?"
“Ours.”
