How could Halloween have been a week ago? Where did this week go? I am glad that things are getting a bit more back to normal, but I don't miss all the extra time we seemed to have had.
Halloween is packed up and stored for another season. We both agree that this was our best one to date. Everything was just enough, but not too much. Does that make sense? Now thoughts turn to the next big holiday in the States - Thanksgiving. It makes me sad that Veteran’s Day is nearly a forgotten day now, but it seems to be getting lost in the shuffle more and more these days.
Last night we went up to Sacramento to see Officer and a Gentleman. Oh, what a dog that show was. I thought Officer and a Gentleman was a dumb movie, but the musical was so much worse. There’s this big ‘action’ scene (supposedly wargames to test the recruits under the pressure of battle) and they had these three Jane Fonda boopsies parading around the stage in 80’s workout spandex. It made no sense whatsoever and pulled focus. Even TBG shook his head in confusion. There was only dance number to end Act One and that was it. Mostly it was just marching and exercising to music. I can’t even imagine why someone thought this would be a good thing to make into a musical.
The good thing that came out of it was that I got everyone to agree that perhaps going to see Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on New Year’s Eve wasn’t the best way of spending the evening. We usually hang with John, Irene and Dave Wong’s. They live eight minutes from us and we are home by nine. Driving over an hour at that time of night makes me anxious.
The other good thing that happened was that we got to stop at Cost Plus World Market - one of my favorite stores around. We lost ours, so Sacramento is the closest. I was like a kid in a candy shop - I got cards, wrapping paper, gift toppers, Christmas crackers and lots of our favorite holiday snacks, like mince tarts and fruitcake. All in all, it was a good trip.
Now I’m girding my loins for a surprise party tonight. It started with a ‘Are you doing anything for Irene for her birthday?’ to a full blown ‘park around the corner’ surprise party. It will be fun and hopefully it will get over before too long. I could do with an early night.
Then tomorrow we are heading over to my old Alma Mata and seeing Cyrano with Jeff. He taught drama there and I ran the scene shop and technical program (practical application) for the students. It will be fun to see what they have to offer. Afterwards, we are driving to Lodi for dinner at
Wine and Rose’s Towne House restaurant. Jeff has been wanting to try it for some time and so invited us along. I’m excited, but it’s going to be a very busy weekend.
In between all of that, I’m putting together Rose’s quilt… I think I’m going back to bed.
