So, he had been learning the paper well Saturday - Tuesday, he was learning outside for #2 from Sunday - Tuesday. He had barely piddled in his bed and wouldn't #2 in the crate - he aimed it out of the crate. Well, Mommy noticed his bed smelled like piddle so trying to be a good puppy mommy, I washed it...
This was a mistake. I didn't take it out in time for him to play in it before bed. I just put it in the crate and put him to bed. He piddled three times and #2ed in the crate last night trying to rescent his bed. So, I backtracked his training.
Now we have to start again today with all new, clean papers and big squares again to get him back to going on the paper...
and the kicker - there is a nasty layer of ice he can't smell through, won't squat on, and doesn't like to walk on...so he won't go potty outside. He just walks around, sniffing and looking pathetic. We go out for 10 minutes, he does nothing because it's too cold, and he comes in and goes after about 5 minutes inside - but not on the paper because he's backtracked.
Ugh. I just have to keep reminding myself that he's 6 weeks old, going on seven, he doesn't know any better, and he's learning. But it's SO frustrating and I'm up w/him at night and so I'm tired, which makes it worse.
Patience... it'll be a few more weeks (maybe a month or two) until he can sleep through the night w/out need to be let out. That will be a great day. We got up to 2.5 hrs last night.
PS: He's at home w/daddy today learning that if he barks or yelps, he will be ignored and will not get what he wants. We're hoping this will help w/our betime issues...this and a good play session w/Mr. Froggie.
