Translated song

This song is one of the most lovely and heartbreaking songs I ever heard. What can be more tear-jerker than a parent singing about the loss of a son? That's one of the many reasons I love Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton.

It's called Era En Abril (It Was In April) by Juan Carlos Baglietto and his then wife (I don't know if she's still is) Silvina Garré. Is kinda old, circa mid 80's, maybe earlier. I think this song is beautiful not just for its lyrics but for the sweetness both of them express in their voices, in special parts of the song. The music is lovely and tender as well, and that part at the end! It still makes me cry when I'm in the mood. My aunt still cannot listen to it, and she lost her month-old baby 32 years ago.

I have my theories about what it means happened to the baby in this song, I tried to translated it as acurely as I could without betraying its poetry. Better you figure it out yourselves... Enjoy!

IT WAS IN APRIL
(Juan Carlos Baglietto & Silvina Garré)

Sabes hermano lo triste que estoy
(You know brother how sad I am)
Se me ha hecho vuelo de trinos, y sangre la voz
(my song flew away, my voice turned into blood)
Se me ha hecho pedazos mi sueño mejor
(torn to pieces my best dream was)
Se ha muerto mi niño
(my child has died)
mi niño, mi niño
(my child, my child)
mi niño, hermano
(my child, brother)

No pudo llenarse la boca de voz
(He couldn't fill his mouth with voice)
Apenas vacío el vientre
(just when the womb emptied out)
de mi dulce amor
(of my sweet love)
Enorme y azul
(Big and blue)
La vida se le dió
(life was offered to him)
No pudo tomarla
(he couldn't take it)
No pudo tomarla
(he couldn't take it)
De tan pequeño
(for he was so small)

Yo le había hecho
(I made for him)
Una blanca canción
(a pure white song)
Del amor entre una nube
(of the love between a cloud)
y un pez volador
(and a flying fish)
Lo soñé corriendo
(I dreamt of him running)
Abrigado en sudor
(sheltered in perspiration)
Las mejillas llenas
(his cheeks full)
Las mejillas llenas
(his cheeks full)
De sol y dulzor
(of sweetness and sun)

CHORUS:
Era en abril el ritmo tibio
(It was in April the tepid rhythm)
De mi chiquito que danzaba
(of my little one dancing)
Dentro del vientre
(inside the womb)
Un prado en flor
(a blossomed meadow)
Era su lecho
(was his bed)
Y el ombligo
(and the umbilicus)
y el ombligo
(and the umbilicus)
el ombligo el sol
(the umbilicus his sun)

No busques hermano el camino mejor
(Do not look brother for a better road)
Que ya tengo el alma muda
(My soul is already mute)
de pedirle a Dios
(from claiming to God)
Que hacemos ahora
(What are we going to do now)
Mi dulzura y yo
(my sweetness and I)
Con dos pechos llenos
(with two breasts filled)
Con dos pechos llenos
(with two breasts filled)
De leche y dolor
(with milk and pain)

[CHORUS]

Estamos pensando...
(We keep thinking...)
Sería mejor...
(it would be for the best...)
El marcharnos tres
(for three to leave)
El marcharnos tres
(for three to leave)
Que a quedarnos... dos
(than two to stay.)

[CHORUS]
