Back to school tomorrow

Difficult to believe that two and a half weeks have gone by - despite not having brilliant weather, we've had a good break, which included several days in Wales without any rain. The best bit of that visit from my pov was the discovery of a Dr Who exhibition in Cardiff, so any plans we might have made were quickly abandoned, and I dragged everyone off down the M4 to Cardiff Bay. Turned out to be a nice day out, wandering round the old docks area which has been completely redeveloped over the past few years, and where much of Dr Who is filmed. Imagine our excitement on Saturday evening when we recognised the Cat People's Hospital as the foyer of the amazing new Theatre we had been in the week before. (Well, I was excited, and Bethan recognised it immediately).

Outside view of new theatre

I think they used this view of the theatre in the first series

Attempt at an arty shot - huge shiny pillar with reflection of old buildings in it

Shiny Dalek - you could press a button and it went into a short 'exterminate' sequence with lights and music and very loud dalek speech - my mum frightened the life out of two little girls by pressing it just as they came into the room

Dead Dalek

We also managed a visit to an owl sanctuary, which both girls loved, because hey, Harry Potter.

The highlight of my easter holiday however (yes, even beating the Dr Who exhib) has been buying a proper office chair - with wheels and height adjustment and swivel and everything - so no more uncomfortable old kitchen chair which gave me back ache every time I sat at the pc to do anything. As (fingers crossed) I might be getting more work from Michele as she's taken on another doctor, this will make things a lot more comfortable for me.

Also done a bit of computer maintenance - bought a stand alone hard drive so that I can backup the Dell directly, instead of using and having to store dvds of data, and also got a new hard drive for the old computer. So I spent Monday afternoon taking the old one out, fitting the replacement and then trying to get it to work. It's much better now, particularly as I've installed windows XP instead of the old windows 98 it had before, works much more quickly and doesn't crash at unexpected and inconvenient moments. I've signed up for a better broadband package which includes wireless connectivity at no additional cost, so as soon as I get the Livebox I'll finish the networking and will then hopefully have two computers that can be connected to the internet at the same time. I'll be able to send myself emails.

Bethan has been tidying her bedroom this afternoon - she must have been really bored, as she did it all of her own volition. She's found all sorts of missing things, her hairbrush, lots of unwashed socks and vests, and the back of one of my earrings, and has actually done a really good job.
