A little bit of armchair altruism...

Feb 01, 2007 19:06

Today's post is not about me. It is not even about any of you out there, perhaps.
It is about all those people who have less than we and those animals that cannot care for themselves. It is about that land that must be protected.
But in a sense then, it is about you and it is about me, because by helping one we help all. Many, many people each doing a small thing can do many, many bigger things and by extension, than a great deal of good.

I am a poor ex-college student. I do not have spare money to give. (At this point I'm sunk to support myself, so I'm grateful to be living at home!) But I do have time. I do have inclination, and I do have the spirit and ability to do for others in ways that perhaps might involve only a donation of time.
As I share my time, even a few spare moments a day, please, reach out and share yours as well. I entreat not just one of you, but all of you to do this. It's not for my sake, and it's not for yours, but it's for the world's. Thank you [/end PSA]

About The Rainforest Site

The Rainforest Site is dedicated to the preservation of rainforests around the world. Your daily click funds the purchase of rainforest land by The Nature Conservancy, The Rainforest Conservation Fund, The World Parks Endowment, and The Friends of Calakmul. These organizations work to preserve rainforest land in Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay and other locations worldwide.

On average, over 35,500 individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the green "Preserve Endangered Land" button. To date, more than 150 million visitors have preserved more than 40,500 acres of land.

About The Animal Rescue Site

The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need - providing food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals given to shelters in the U.S. every year. Over 10 million animals are put to death every year in the U.S. alone because they are abandoned and unwanted.

Each click on the purple "Fund Food for Animals" button at The Animal Rescue Site provides food and care for a rescued animal living in a shelter or sanctuary. Funding for food and care is paid by site sponsors and distributed to animals in need at the Fund for Animals' renowned animal sanctuaries (including Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Texas and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in California), pet shelters supported by the Petfinder Foundation, North Shore Animal League, and other worthy animal care facilities supported by the GreaterGood.org foundation.

100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.
How You Can Help In Mere Seconds - Every Day

The Animal Rescue Site provides a feel-good way to help promote awareness and prevent rescued animal deaths every day - through easy and quick online activities.

Please remember to click every day to give help and hope to those most in need. Every click counts in the life of a rescued animal.

There's also www.thebreastcancersite.com which funds mammograms, www.theliteracysite.com which sense books to underprivileged children, www.thechildhealthsite.com which, as the title would suggest, provides health care to the poorest children around the world, and www.thehungersite.com which provides food to those without in all parts of the world.

I'll also tune you into something that may involve a little bit of that money I don't have, but it's worth it:

(Red) is a fund to help fight AIDS in Africa by purchasing products whose proceeds will go to that funding:

"(RED) UPDATE
Last year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, we launched (PRODUCT) RED, an idea that had been taking shape for a couple of years. The premise was simple: create a brand that would put global marketing genius to work for people dying of AIDS in Africa.

We knew consumers were the key. The (RED) products had to excite and inspire them. First step was to gin up the corporate sector-to make them see (RED) the way we saw it.

Our goal all along was to “get the check” for Africa, not just once but over and over. The Global Fund’s goal is to receive 10% of its funding from the private sector but it had raised less than 1% in its first five years. The roadmap to turn this tide was what we spoke about on January 26th 2006, when we came to Davos with Dr. Richard Feachem, the Executive Director of the Global Fund and four blue chip global brands..."
