No, this isn't another frickin' meme or Writers Block quiz. This is actual me articulating actual words straight out of my pie-hole via my spillproof keyboard.
First, I am BACK into fantasy gaming. Point of fact I am back into lots of things which had been "on hold" throughout most of what will go on record as one of the shittiest years ever for my personal happiness. But those are more personal things, and in spite of this being LJ "the bitch-and-whine-about-it" place), that ain't how Spike rolls.
I not only drank the "old school renaissance" Kool-Aid, but now am working hard to put a happy sugary purple mustache on as many of my RPG friends as I can ..within my limitations as a law-biding person who does not like tying folks up unless they specifically ask me to.
The game is
Swords & Wizardry, and the Core Rules are a retro-clone of the original edition of D&D. Of course there are other old-school games out there such as
OSRIC, and
Labyrinth Lord, I discovered S&W while trying to find a copy of the "little brown books" original D&D game, of which Steve has a very very bad xeroxed (yes, pirated) copy from his college days. But unlike the orignal Original, S&W's rules are clear and easy to make sense of.
So now that he and I are role playing again, we've started painting again. While the dungeon is well-stocked with orcs, sometimes the situation demands a purple worm or giant spiders. And since we've started painting again, we've resumed working for Reaper Miniatures' demo team down at Hobbytown USA. Once we've finished showing how much fun it is to paint, we set up the 3-D dungeon and have an hour or so of kobold-bashing fun.
And we're going to ReaperCon! YAY! I really missed getting to do that last year, though I tried to pretend it didn't bother me so much. This year is going to be even better though because we might have a few of our friends from the S&W community coming down. (The game's creator is a Texan himself).
And there's more stuff going on too. For those of you who ever followed this blog, I have an exclusively RPG-related blog over at BlogSpot now..called
Ubiquitous Orcs. I sitll have the blog at
Vox also, but it's what you'd call a personal and photo blog.
Well, that sums it up for me. So i've proven I'm not dead... at least not any deader than 2pac.
