Sort of Back, Intermittently

I have a new computer! The motherboard on my old one was completely fried. The problem is this one has Vista instead of XP and it's gonna take me awhile to figure out how to use it. Have I mentioned that I do NOT cope well with change? What? It's a thing. The new computer doesn't have PhotoShop or FrontPage or a lot of other programs I used frequently, so I guess I'll have to buy them individually and install them myself.

My big problem at present, is that my Windows player on my previous computer played wav and avi files both (and I only had to use the real player for real vids.) Well, I've recently downloaded two avi files and the windows player has no picture - just plays the sound and shows colored squiggles. What do I need to do to play avi videos? Help!

I have a lot to post about my time off-line, but I seem to have developed pneumonia and have very little lung function, and am totally exhausted, so for the present, I'll only be online intermittently. I'll be spending the rest of my time taking pills. I have eight new prescriptions for the pneumonia/congestion in addition to the dozen or so I have for the RA. Oh, joy! And I was really looking forward to watching KKBB, which I can't now because my stupid new computer can't figure out how to play avi files!!! :(

Also, can anyone tell my why half my flist's posts (all posts, including birthday greetings and discussion about the comic books, etc.) are hidden behind cut tags that state "You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors"? And what really makes it funny, is some people on my flist are scored so that you have to certify that you are 14, while you have to certify you are 18 to view others. Is this a new thing? Is it a voluntary decision by the LJ holder, or does someone just decided that so-and-so posts stuff not suitable for under 14s? And, why isn't it used for actual potentially offensive content? I hardly think wishing someone a happy birthday requires one to be 18 to view it. Whassup with that?
