Puppy Problems

After her United States tour, Carrie Underwood was finally free to a stressless month of relaxing in her Oklahoma mansion. The country star was currently sitting in her living room, half-heartedly watching "Food Network", when her doorbell rang. Carrie stretched before getting up and heading towards the door. Looking through the peephole, Carrie noticed it was none other than her sister Lisa. Opening the door, Carrie smiled.
"Hey!" Carrie happily greeted, embracing her sister. "How are you?"
"I'm good," Lisa replied, "but I need a small favor." Carrie frowned, setting her hand on her hip. Whenever Lisa needed a "small" favor, it usually turned out to be a huge favor.
"What is it this time?" Carrie asked. Lisa smiled and took Carrie's hand leading her over to her red Corvette.
"I'm going to be visiting Mom and Dad and I just need you to watch the puppies for me," Lisa said, dropping Carrie's hand and opening the back door, the six puppies crawling out. Lisa grabbed their leashes before standing up again. "What do you say? Help me out?"
Carrie eyed her sister suspiciously. This seemed way too easy to be a favor her sister was asking her.
"All I have to do is feed them and walk them?" Carrie asked. Lisa nodded.
"It will only be for the day. I'll be back around six o'clock to pick them up," Lisa explained. Carrie shrugged.
"Deal, but only if I get to borrow your iPod," Carrie agreed. Lisa rolled her eyes and pulled her pink iPod out of her pocket and handed it over to her sister. Reaching back into the backseat, Lisa pulled out three cans of wet dog food, handing them to Carrie along with the leashes.
"Each puppy eats half a can of this at 4:00 P.M. and immediately needs to be taken out after that, got it?" Lisa asked. Carrie nodded.
"Sure, no problem," Carrie replied. Lisa smiled before getting into the driver's seat of the Corvette.
"Thanks a lot sis!" She called before backing out of Carrie's driveway and driving down the road. Carrie looked down at the six fluffy puppies, leading them towards her house.
"You guys don't seem so bad. This should be easy," Carrie mumbled to the puppies. She opened the door and let them into her house, closing the door after she entered after them.

For the three hours Carrie had been with the dogs, she found this job was proving to be easier than she thought. The puppies mostly slept while she listened to her radio or read peacefully. When it had finally reached four o'clock at last, Carrie walked into her kitchen and pulled out six tupperware bowls out her cabinet and set them on top of her counter next to the cans of puppy food. Carrie pulled the tabs on the cans (estimating what half of a can was) and emptied the contents into the six tupperware bowls.
"Dinner!" Carrie shouted, setting the bowl on the floor. As she expected, all six puppies stumbled into the kitchen and hungrily dug into their dinners. She smiled as she watched them, heading to the hallway to pull on her shoes and grab the leashes.
Carrie plopped herself down on the tile floor, digging in the closet looking for her pink Sketchers. She smiled once she found them and began to put them on. Right as she started on her second shoe, the familiar sound of puppy feet filled the hallway and Carrie was greeted by the six friendly puppies. She giggled as the puppies yipped happily and tried to lick her face. Carrie picked one up and stood up, clipping the leashes onto each of their collars and grabbing her purse before stepping outside.
"Wait! Slow down!" Carrie called to the puppies as they turned the tables and began taking her for the walk. The puppies reluctantly slowed down their pace and Carrie pulled out her sister's iPod, turning on shuffle.
'It's such a nice day,' Carrie thought to herself as she and the puppies headed towards the community park. The puppies paused, sniffing the air before yipping and picking up their gallop yet again, dragging poor Carrie with them. Carrie sighed and began to jog to keep up with the restless puppies.
"What is it?" She asked as the puppies halted and loudly yipped. Looking ahead, Carrie noticed an old couple feeding the birds from a bench. "Oh no," Carrie mumbled as the six puppies began to drag her towards the birds and the couple. The puppies felt no sympathy for her as they scared the birds away and tried to jump on top of the old couple wanting the bread crusts.
"I'm so sorry!" Carrie apologized, pulling roughly on the leash and tugging the puppies towards her.
"Keep those dogs under control!" The old man yelled. Carrie frowned and lead the puppies back onto the trail.
"You got me into trouble," Carrie scolded the puppies, "Behave yourselves!" As the puppies finally started to behave, Carrie's cell phone began to ring from inside her purse. She stuffed the iPod into her back pocket and grabbed her phone.
"Hello?" Carrie asked.
"How are they?" Lisa asked from the other end.
"They don't listen too well I noticed," Carrie muttered, rolling her eyes. Her sister laughed on the other line. "How's Mom and Dad?" Carrie asked, changing the subject.
"They're great. They wanted me to tell you that they want you to come visit soon," Lisa answered. Carrie nodded.
"Alright, no problem. I'll go visit them next week," she agreed.
"Well, we're about to have dinner so I'll see you around six," Lisa said.
"Bye," Carrie said as she shut her phone, stuffing it back into her purse. Once again, she noticed the puppies had stopped.
"What's the problem this time?" She asked. Her eyes widened. In front of them lie a giant pond.
"No. Please, please, no," Carrie begged them. The puppies however took no sympathy for the singer and shot off like a rocket, diving into the pond and taking Carrie with them! It wasn’t long until the freezing cold pond water immersed the singer. Her T-shirt clung to her skin and she could feel the disgustingly soft mud at the bottom of the murky pond through her shoes. The pond was surprisingly deep, the water coming up to her armpits. The puppies were happily padding in the water, swimming after ducks.
“Darn! That’s the last of my iPod,” Carrie cursed, feeling the ruined machine through her pants pocket.
“Excuse me.” Carrie turned around and looked up at a park guard, his hands on his hips.
"Hi officer. Is there a problem?" Carrie sweetly asked him.
"No dogs in the water," he answered, pointing to a sign posted on a stick sticking up in front of the pond. Carrie giggled nervously.
"Surely you can believe I didn't see that, right?" Carrie asked. The guard crossed his arms over his chest, glaring down at her.

Carrie grumbled to herself as she and the puppies walked home. With each step she took, a wet squelch would follow, leaving a muddy footprint on the sidewalk.
“I'm mad at you,” Carrie growled to the puppies in front of her. A woman with two kids whom she was walking past gave her a weird look and shuffled her children away from the dripping wet girl with the puppies.
Carrie heaved a sigh and opened the door to her house. She was surprised to find her sister on the couch. Carrie flopped down on a chair next to her, carelessly dropping the leashes on the floor with a thud.
"Have fun?" Lisa asked with a giggle. Carrie glared at her.
“I am henceforth banned from the park. Oh, and I need a new iPod,” Carrie threw her iPod at Lisa. Lisa looked at the wet machine pitifully.
"Don't quit your day job," she muttered.
“I need a shower,” Carrie mumbled, getting up and heading upstairs towards the bathroom.
Lisa examined the iPod as she heard the bathroom door close. "Wait a second..." she said as the realization dawned on her as to whose iPod it was.

Carrie smiled to herself as she turned on the water. Lisa’s shriek was still ringing through her ears. Maybe she should puppy-sit more often!
