Sorry Rebecca, but this is an odd argument. Punk isn't really anarchy. To my understanding, its about genuine non-conformity..and at that time, there was a lot to rebel against. Sure, there's a lot now, but the whole dressing issue came from the thought that fashion was stupid. Its ironic, because the whole fashion that big corporations label "punk" essentially came from the idea of anti-fashion...but yeah, thats all.

Okay, you bring up a good point. I guess what I was trying to say (but couldn't quite phrase at the time) was that "punk" is being understood nowadays as a fad, but real punk would never be considered a fad. Certainly people don't think being "punk" is a fad because of behavior? Nope, it's all associated with clothing and outward appearance. Therefore, because of what you've said, the fad is really just a fad of being poser punk or some other type of style. There is no such thing as a true fad of being punk, because punk was never a style, it was a way of life.

Alright - I would just like to know why, if punk is a way of life, and you guys are all about non-conformity, why you find it necessary to even COMMENT on your Abercrombie-clad classmates. OK, you're non-conformists - maybe that makes you better than everyone else, but who really cares? High school is a bogus illusion of life. Nothing you do matters here, except maybe your grades because those are the only things that really have to follow you. No ones going to care whether you were punk or a "whore", "prep", or "jock". You do what you want with your life - it's great that you all have made the first step into dressing and acting the way you want - but why bother dissing everyone who went down a different path? That just wastes a lot of energy that could be put to much better use. The fact that you guys are even talking about STORES as an indicator of what "group" you're in is immature in itself.
