I have a bit of a confession to make: "I may not show it, but I do care about the people who call me a friend."
For the last several years, especially the last couple, I have pretty much fallen off the map as it were in the communications department and hardly keep in touch with anyone. I lost my ICQ account many moons ago, am hardly on AIM or Skype much, and even on LJ I have gotten out of the habit of checking in on things. Even trying to go to cons make it near impossible to do it in person. But it doesn't mean that I don't care about any of you. I just really do not have any real way of showing it anymore.
The second part of my confession is that I have fallen out of another one of my once regular habits and that is being a fairly heavy reader. I used to read all of the time. It was once very rare that I did not have one or two books that I was trying to read through so I could then jump on the next one, and then another. I can remember in my much younger years going through as many as a dozen books in a week. Now to even find the time to read with my busy schedule is next to impossible.
Which is one of the reasons why I have really enjoyed using the tablet my mother gave me for Christmas this year, and realizing just how many audio books there are on YouTube and many other free sources. The last few weeks have really been a great reversal in getting back into enjoying books again, even though I do miss the feel of a dead tree copy in my hands, but any way...
So, to bring the two points together, I would like to see about sharing my love of reading with those I care about, the two of you that still read this blog.
I am not sure on how to motivate others to read. I just know that there are a great number of books that I have missed out on, and would like to at least be able to make up for lost time as it were. It annoys me that I missed out on many books that you hear people talk about, but it seems like no one really ever reads. Even when they make yet another crappy movie about them.
So to expand your horizons, I suggest to you to grab your iPod, iPad, tablet, smartphone, etc and make use of the available resources that are at your finger tips. And then listen whenever you can. I have been multitasking a lot during work, especially with the increased workload.
This bit of software has been really helpful in collecting the audiobooks that I have been listening to:
