I had noticed that the vision in my left eye had been deteriorating at a disturbing rate over the last two years, and at an alarming rate these past four months. An eye exam in July lead to an eye surgeon consult today. I figured it was just the astigmatism getting bad.
Nope, there's a cataract in there. Surgery to remove it is set for end of January.
I wasn't really thrilled with the idea of having eye surgery with a local anesthetic, but I think a Valium is optional. I'll probably go for that.
And there's been some amazing strides in this sort of procedure.. they can remove the lens and replace it with a synthetic one that'll correct my distance vision all through an incision less than 3mm long. Could be worse I suppose.
On the plus side, with near perfect vision in my left eye I'll have a legitimate excuse to wear a monocle in my right...
