Is it just me or is it true that actors/actresses on tv/in films never seem to say Goodbye (or similar) at the end of a telephone call?

it's true, they don't. I understand in the US they rarely say farewells on the phone

Maybe that's where it comes from then although I'm sure I've noticed on "British" programs too.
