I spent time from age 3-6 obsessed with Grease. I would dress up in my ballet outfit, which was my only all black outfit, and conveniently also form-fitting, put on the hand-me-down blue eye shadow and lipstick, and wait for the finale songs in the middle of side 1 of my tape. Then I would sing and dance along.

Originally, I was quite upset for Sandy for bowing to peer pressure and changing her look to get the boy. I eventually decided it was what it was and that I really liked those two songs.

But it was the gift of the magi! Were you mad at him as well? I always loved that movie for being so even-handed about it.

That's the part I liked, too - that each of them changed for the other. (But, when it comes down to it, they WERE both kind of greasers in the end. Doesn't he yank off his letter sweater? Although he IS going to college...)

There could be some fun in doing a sequel set in the '80s, in which Danny is a college professor, Sandy's a politician, the romance seems gone, but their kids (in high school) bring them together! It could have '80s dance numbers! And a cameo by Michelle Pfeiffer singing "Cool Rider"!

It's tricky! Lettering in track is more work than putting on tight pants. But good girl -> slutty girl is a bigger change than greaser -> athlete greaser. And you're right they end as greasers. If we take the sequel into account, it's possible to read that as "everyone should be a Greaser" instead of "girls should change more". So complicated!

And the funny thing is, Marie Osmond refused the role of Sandy because she "went bad" to get the boy! If the ending had been different, Olivia Newton-John would never have played Sandy.
