the trip to Brattleboro, VT was amazing. getting there was hell, kinda. though i liked reading poetry. "we are dancing in the dark, but we are not deicived". when we found the secret location (the harmony parking lot)we had already missed the show. but there were sing-alongs still going on. ie "goodn ridence (time of your life)" "baby i'm an anarchist" "king of carrot flowers" etc. everyone was friendly there right away. they told us of all the adventures of setting off fireworks and the cops showing up with kids drinking 40s in paper bags and almost afraid to do anything, cuz the kids were so riot ready. (crust punks and hippies are such my place)also the chain smoking game, the vomit-into-a-pile game, the who has the harriest ass contest, and more family fun. Pat [the Bunny] invited everyone to stay at his parents house. I learned later his parents said 10 kids could stay over, about 40, 50 people rolled up. Everyone was being pretty loud and drunk and his mom was so awesome about it. "i see there's a lot of underage kids drinking here, just please dont get into a car" she came outside to quite us downa few times and still made breakfast for us in the morning. the stars out on the mountains in Marlboro were... wow.
mindblowing. you could make out the clouds in the milky way. it was nothing like Boston where you could count the number of stars on your hands, it really was like trying to count grains of sand out there. and there were shooting stars about every 15 mins. i asked if there was a metorite shower tonight and they told me that there's constantly stuff burning into the atmosphere you just normally can't see it. i met this kid Tree and spent most of the night with him and Zach. We put down my sleeing bag staring into the stars the entire night with Zach's sleeping bag ontop of us. talking and talking anf talking. about what, i forget, but it was amzing. it inspired beauty and love in me. Tree is so amazing, he's this crust punk who moved outta his house to squat and to save his sanity. he has 2 bags, the one full of books is heavier. he's so beautiful despite everything. yeah. awesome awesome person. we watched the stars fade into morning and did sun salutaions with Zach.
then breakfst and bumming around. I was making a bracelet for Tree and Sam's son (who'd going into 1st grade) came over and i asked if he wanted one, he said yes and in exchange brought all these plants over that he taugh me there names and what part to eat on them. Zach was telling my that adbusters had this thing that said people came more brand names than they can wildlife. i bet this kid didn't know one brand name. then back to harmony for town capture the flag and dumpster diving and talking anf laughing and building a fort outta cardboard boxes, and spraying cooking grease on out shoes to slide around and using it to teach the kids how to spray paint. The fort was awesome though. The kids were playing in it and it had "squat or rot" etc. written on it. it made me feel good. also skinny dipping in this river during the day. it was super fun. then chillin with tree and C. then the concert. then the after party. me and tree ended up sleeping on the front lawn in my sleeping bag.
the next morning was spent trying to express how much i love the people i had been around for 2 days. then going back to Boston thanks to Matt. we stopped to see this store "coutry mischief" which was clearly owned by a serial killer or someone equally insane. then to Newton to see Andy and Anal for the last time in a long time. when i'm with those kids i can feel the love pass between them. Anal was showing me the travel pictures and you oculd SEE it. how much they love eachother, what good friends they are. i babbled to Andy unsucessfully about how much i love him. he was very calm about it and while i didn't feel i communictaed it well enough, i think he understood. we walked through the woods. we sang bad 80s music in the car. we had such a good time. it was the best way to end my summer. Andy gave me a zine, i've already started to memorize it.
