Here a brief summary of an expert deposition I recently took of a tile contractor's tile expert.
Me: So what makes you an expert?
Him: I looked up rectified tile on the internet for about 10 hours and spoke with the department managers of Home Depot and Lowes.
Me: Um..., so the extent of your expertise is about 10 hours of internet research and talking to some guys at Lowes and Home Depot?
Him: No, I spoke with their department managers.
Me: Ok. So the extent of your expertise is about 10 hours of internet research and talking to the department managers at Lowes and Home Depot?
Him: Yes.
Me: And you feel this makes you an expert in rectified tile?
Him: No.
Me: Wait, so you're saying you're not an expert in rectified tile.
Him: Correct.
Me: Are you an expert in anything?
Him: Yes, leather tanning.
Me: (long pause) Ok. Besides leather tanning, do you consider yourself an expert in anything else?
Him: No.
