I, am a glacier....gravity gets me down.....I stir things up and drag them along....

I love Earth Science....it's very interesting. Glaciers were the topic of today's lecture...they may seem might boring, but they're not. Yup, glaciers....big piles of ice, trudging along...glaciers.

If you haven't read The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath, now's the time to start, and I quote:

"I didn't know shorthand either.
'This meant I couldn't get a good job after college. My mother kept telling me nobody wanted a plain English major. But an English major who knew shorthand was something else again. Everybody would want her. She would be in demand among all the up-and-coming young men and she would transcribe letter after thrilling letter.
'The trouble was, I hated the idea of serving men in any way. I wanted to dictate my own thrilling letters. Besides, those little shorthand symbols in the book my mother showed me seemed just as bad as let t equal time and let s equal the total distance."

How cool is that??? I LOVE it.

I also like this quote from my philosophy text:

"No matter how hard we may try, there are limits to our power to boost I.Q. or to make the upper echelons of the professions available to groups that have been historically disadvantaged (people with two X chromosomes or with a tendency to produce melanin in their skin cells)."

I don't agree with the "there are limits..." part, but the way he describes the historically disadvantaged groups is GREAT!!

Anyway, I'm going to go watch last season's finale of Will and Grace.
